Get Emotional....Intelligence!
Have you ever wondered why do we make bad decisions? Decisions that turn out to be bad or even catastrophic! Chances are, if you are like most people you would retrospect and try to understand and learn from your mistakes. More often than not, it is during a surge of emotions, mostly negative and sometimes positive that we act and wonder what got hold of us that now causes us to question ourselves. Sometimes we buy things out of our emotional excitement and splurge or get angry or sad on certain life situations, whichever they might be.
The answer to this is #emotionalintelligence or #EQ. If you would have come across this term, you would know that EQ is the ability to regulate and manage our emotions in daily life. It is a term defined by notable author Daniel Goleman who gave the world its concept and a certain science and method on the unregulated world of emotions and their significance in our lives.
Through his path-breaking book " Emotional Intelligence ", he has given ample examples of why EQ matters more than IQ. We have both thinking and feelings, a brain and a heart and the middle way is emotional intelligence. EQ is the one thing which brings in more balance and harmony between the two.
In movies or sitcoms we have some hard left brain thinkers who are portrayed as tinkerers or as a nerdy figure in movies and shows such as #SheldonCooper from The Big Bang Theory. On the other hand we have highly emotional overcharged people say #FrodoBaggins from LOTR or #Hulk from Avengers. While nothing wrong in either of them as all are having their own unique personalities it should be noted that some extra emotional intelligence is always helpful.
Sometimes emotions are dismissed at times being complicated while sometimes given too much importance such that it disables the person from thinking and acting as necessity demands. Both of these signal a need for higher EQ. The good news about EQ is that it is not so fixated as IQ. It is #softskill which can be #trained and developed. Unlike IQ which be increased by a marginal degree, EQ is highly dynamic and flexible. Intelligence is now getting broader and is now no longer restricted to conventional IQ. Further good news is that, a higher EQ is proportional to higher #success, #happiness, and fulfilling relationships and life experience in general. The ex-captain of the Indian Cricket Team, MS Dhoni is a great exemplary of high EQ and how positively it affects our #team members, ourselves and the outcomes to get the country which got the country The World Cup as well. #Leaders are required to be masters of EQ!
