GET Congress: Getting real on emissions, expectations and action
Having worked on both sides of the energy events industry fence – first as a direct employee of an international energy company and now as an energy event organiser – I know just how important these gatherings are.
They are spaces for deals to be struck, negotiated and closed. They raise visibility for the industry and bring together stakeholders and leaders from around the globe to debate and discuss challenges, opportunities and strategy.
As I listened and participated at LNG23 in Vancouver last week, it reinforced my ambitions for the event I am leading that will take place in July 2024: the Global Energy Transition Congress and Exhibition or GET Congress and Exhibition. GET Congress is not just another platform for safe conversation or business deals. GET Congress will be the platform that seeks to turn industry and governmental pledges into tangible actions.
For example, on the topic of LNG and natural gas in general, there is a lot to advocate for. Natural gas is the lowest carbon emitter of all the fossil fuels and a vital part of the energy mix to help us move towards net zero emissions. As we navigate ongoing challenges that began with the pandemic in 2020 and intensified with the war in Ukraine in 2022, LNG and natural gas will play a key part in the energy transition as we address energy supply and affordability issues in the near-term.

But to leave it at that is not enough. I encourage the LNG industry to be more vocal about the vital role LNG does and can play in accelerating the energy transition, not just supporting it.
I invite all our partners from across the energy value chain to participate and bring open minds and fresh perspectives to the dialogue at the inaugural GET Congress. We welcome politicians and policymakers to join us in the same spirit. We seek intellectuals, sustainability champions, investors, and scientists. We are actively engaging participants from hard-to-abate industries and the climate tech innovation market. We seek diversity in areas of expertise and in stakeholder positioning, and as such will also cultivate representation from a variety of socio-economic and gender perspectives as well as the generation that will take forward the work we do today, our youth.
If you are ready to move the needle, if your ambition is to leave a regenerative legacy rather than a depleted planet, if you are invested in redefining the Anthropocene era – the geological epoch signified by human impact on the earth's geology and ecosystems – as anything other than purely negative, GET Congress is for you. Whatever your relationship to energy – producer, regulator, end-user or other – you have a role in creating actionable roadmaps to ensure that we achieve a just and fast transition.

1 年I agree with Leanne Dohy . We can’t be transforming our energy supply while keeping the mistakes of the past. Social innovation must lead technology and energy innovation. Indigenous led projects and equity, diversity and inclusion need to be at the top of the agenda.
I believe the Transition process should recognize the transition challenges of developing countries and the targets, timelines, strategy, and funding must be tailored accordingly.

1 年I agree with your perspective. We need to get out of our industry silos and start collaborating across the value chain to make rapid and deep changes to our energy system. Good to set out this challenge.
Social equity and inclusion! Any transition that doesn’t respectfully, equitably include the Indigenous peoples whose lands are impacted, or that doesn’t consider the energy needs of the populations fighting their way out of poverty, is not a sustainable transition!

1 年Well said! And well done for getting on and spearheading this event!! :-) I feel the transition is finally picking up a gear this year. Change is happening, companies are implementing new approaches .. in existing business as well as new ventures. But can change happen faster? Absolutely yes! A forum like will help share best practices. When it comes to saving shipping emissions, we've been able to do that for years, optimising fleet schedules. And when it comes to factoring in new shipping regulations and optimising for that, we do that too!
