As a teenager, I wanted to be a mini Rihanna so badly. I knew all her songs and lyrics, I'd write her name all over my jeans... I was obsessed. Thanks to my mom's prayers and constant affirmation of who I am in Christ, I found my way back to myself.
Likewise, Justina always knew there was more to her, but she tried desperately to fit into a box.
"Oh, Kelly uses this cool word. I'll add it to my speech".
"Tolu writes like this. I could start doing that too".
Piece by piece, she started shedding her true self until she became a patchwork of different people. She lost her uniqueness, her spark, what made her special.
That was how she lived throughout her 20s.
We have many incredible people we admire, but we often forget that we love and celebrate them because of how true they are to themselves. Their authenticity draws us to them.
They're not trying to be another version of someone else. They're just being their true selves.
To truly be a blessing to the world and become a butterfly, you must remain comfortable in your own skin.
