Get comfortable with being uncomfortable!

Consistency is Key - I am a firm believer in that.? I understand the benefits of creating a habit, priming yourself for consistency, and feeling a sense of pride of showing up for yourself and being consistent.? But the epiphany I had this weekend is that its just as import if you want to see results faster, to get uncomfortable.

I like to think that I’m quite consistent with my workout routine and aim for a minimum of 3 x per week weight training and mix that up with 2 cardio sessions that week, which I have been for a while now.

Just this last weekend I’d done my regular class and the next day decided to do free weights, I blasted my music and powered through.

Later that day I could feel the results of the efforts I’d put in that morning, which is not the case when I go to a group class, and I could actually see more prominence in the muscle.

This got me thinking…

  1. If I’d put in the same amount of effort that I did that day every day before, What would my results look like now?
  2. You must get uncomfortable if you want to grow!? I’d been playing it “safe” and steady in the middle of the class, not increasing my weights over time and very rarely making those ugly straining faces you do when you exert effort. (On my own, workout playlist booming in my ears I'd definitely pulled some less than attractive Hulk faces).
  3. If I’m really honest with myself was I hiding in the pack, playing it safe and going through the motions to simply tick the box?? It was only when I went out on my own at my own pace and challenged myself that I was fully present and pushed myself.
  4. The definition of consistency is behaving in the same way, when being consistent becomes mundane, don’t be afraid to mix it up.? I enjoy the energy in the room that is created from collective effort as well as the encouragement of the instructor and I’ll still do that.? But I do think that there is also something powerful in knowing you can push yourself by yourself.

So, let's embrace the discomfort and challenge ourselves beyond our usual limits. Whether it's in the gym, at work, or in our personal lives, stepping out of our comfort zones can lead to incredible growth and unexpected results.

Remember, consistency is important, but don't be afraid to mix things up and push yourself harder. The journey might be tough, but the rewards are worth it. Keep striving, keep pushing, and most importantly, keep growing!
