Get certified!

Welcome to the first Amazing Monday newsletter ???. Each week on Monday, I will write and share with you one article with the most interesting things that I have done, read, or watched in the previous week. In case you are looking for more content I have also started a YouTube channel that I encourage you to check out. ???

If you enjoy this newsletter, please consider sharing it with others via: LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter or Facebook.

So, let’s get started!

I think it's good that I begin with the topics that I will touch on in this newsletter. In general, I will cover the arias that I am passionate about. Start-ups, company insights, job interviews, book reviews, tech talks, investing, and productivity are some of the subjects that I am interested in and that I will write about.

I will probably change the structure of this newsletter until I am happy with it, so please have patience. ??

Get certified!

Last week was quite packed! I didn’t have time to read that much as I was learning to get two certifications: one for Python and one for Tableau. With Python, my goal is just to know the basics and to be able to read and understand complex code. I think in today’s data-driven world it’s a must! And since I am learning it, it’s good that I also get a certification out of it. With Tableau, it’s a different story. I already am using it for quite a while and since I have the knowledge, it would be great to test my skills and become Tableau certified. But as a general recommendation, if you are using some tool and you have the skills and knowledge, get certified! And once you have it, add it to your CV and make it public. You will spark people’s interest and new opportunities will pop up.

Worth Reading:

??Book - Currently I am reading 12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos by Jordan B. Peterson. What sparked my interest in doing more research about the author (Canadian clinical psychologist, self-help writer, cultural critic, and professor of psychology at the University of Toronto), and what he wrote was a YouTube interview with him about the gender pay gap ( link ) and this Q&A. The guy seriously has talent in debates.

Halfway through this ‘Self-help’ book, I can say it’s pretty interesting how Peterson goes into the meaning of each subject(rule) philosophically and psychologically. I will not say more as I will write a separate article with my thoughts on it, but I think it’s worth reading.

??Article/s

Financial Times - Tech: The robots are coming for Deliveroo’s riders - technology is evolving and soon human delivery workers will be replaced with autonomous robots. What question popped up in my head while reading this article: if this is the future, should we start investing in the companies that are developing these robots?

Financial Times - IPOs: Workplace software group UiPath jumps on NYSE debut - The Romania-founded, New York-based company, a maker of workplace automation software started trading on the NYSE. So proud that a Romanian company reached this valuation! As I am a huge fan of automation, and I believe this is the future, it’s worth checking out if you are thinking of investing.

Worth Watching

What I urge you to watch is the documentary Seaspiracy on Netflix. The filmmaker Ali Tabrizi reveals information about how and why the commercial fishing industry is killing the planet, ourselves, and our future. What shocked me the most was the “bycatch” side effect of fishing which is needlessly killing millions of sharks, dolphins, and sea turtles, all to catch 100 Pacific Bluefin Tuna. So, next time you eat fish, please keep in mind the impact it has on the ocean and the world!

YouTube: The Low Code Revolution - 500 M new applications will be built in the next 5 years. And in order to satisfy this demand, we would need more developers, more people that know how to code. But this is not the answer to the problem, as currently we are facing a shortage of developers, and in the future this shortage will increase. That’s why the solution is the low code/ no code development. That means that you don’t have to know how to code in order to develop an application. Development is not anymore just for developers. And with that said, I can tell you that now there are a lot of start-ups popping up that are addressing this problem. And if you do the research and find one that you like, I suggest you invest in it.

Until next week, don’t forget: #readmore & #investsmart!
