Get Caught Up: Essential HPC Stories from February

Welcome to our new HPCwire newsletter. For those who may not know, since 1987, HPCwire has been the go-to site for HPC news, events, options, and more. We provide authentic, accurate, and trusted content from real editors who gather content, write articles, do interviews, and pay attention to the market and community. By the way, we also cover those bots that try to mimic professional content like ours.

Because you are busy and the sources of good HPC content are sprinkled all over the web, we decided to provide the top stories from the previous month in a convenient LinkedIn newsletter we have called “Get Caught Up: Essential HPC stories for ...” and will provide links to full stories and some background on why they are important.

Discover Virtuous Computing

Jumping in, the first story is probably the most important of 2025. Posted on February 6th, Feeding the Virtuous Cycle of Discovery: HPC, Big Data, and AI Acceleration describes the huge changes GenAI has brought to HPC and how our publications are contributing to this revolutionizing scientific and technical computing.

In this article, the Tabor Communications editors for AIwire, BigDATAwire, QCwire, and HPCwire explain the development of a virtuous cycle in HPC computing. If you have been wondering how AI, Big Data, Quantum, and HPC all fit together, read this article.

Reaching back into January, we christened the week of January 27th, DeepSeek Week, as the new Chinese GenAI shook the entire market. After the dust settled, we took a close look at what the DeepSeek news actually means in terms of the future of AI and covered what almost everyone missed about it.

Majorana and Ocelot

There was quite a bit of quantum news in February. In addition to building massive nuclear (and other) powered data centers, the hyperscalers have been busy creating their own quantum computer chips. Google announced a chip in December 2024, but in the last two weeks, both Microsoft and AWS announced their quantum processors.

A few points about quantum computing news: First, quantum computing continues to progress, and it is challenging. Second, various modalities are used to create Qubits (all have advantages and disadvantages), and no one is sure which one to use. Think of it as the early days of creating discrete transistors, when many different material methodologies were tested before a clear winning method(s) were established. QCwire is a great place to keep abreast of the latest quantum computing news.

Certified Must-Read

The final article is a must-read and possibly the best value in HPC and AI market news. Addison Snell of Intersect360 Research provides a thoughtful analysis of both HPC and AI for the coming year. You could buy a marking report, but we suggest first taking a look at??Five Big Questions for HPC-AI in 2025. Your HPC and AI expectations and outlook for 2025 will be on firm footing.
