Get better at the hard.

Get better at the hard.

Today I made myself proud. I didn't hit a personal best, run the fastest or get the most "Splats" (s/o fellow OTF Community). Today, I beat the voice in my head- the one that said from the time I stepped into that studio, until I completed the 23 minute endurance run, kept telling me that I could give myself a break and walk, that I couldn't run the entire 23 minutes without walking- I was negotiating with myself the first half of that block- until I didn't- my mindset overcame my own BS, and I did it. How are you talking to yourself when you face something hard? Are you getting better at the hard? Or are you staying complacent and allowing yourself to make excuses for your short-comings and filling your mind with negative self-talk?

For me- getting better at the hard is a skillset- it is something you have to actively work on- you know how? BY DOING THE THING YOU LEAST WANT TO DO consistently and NOT allowing your excuses to get in the way. I say often; and it's a VICKISM (a common phrase that I have butchered somewhat but you still understand it); EAT THE ELEPHANT. DO the thing you dread doing, FIRST, OFTEN and REPEAT- until it becomes part of your routine and process, and you fall in love with the progress you see.?

Here's the thing- I work out regularly- almost daily (DO NOT COME AT ME- I know I need to take more rest days)- so the fact that my brain was trying to? trick me into believing that I couldn't do a 23 minute endurance run without resting, when I run every day, is just ridiculous. OF COURSE, I CAN DO IT- why? Because I train for it- I put in the work every day- I HATE running, I am not fast, but I show up on that treadmill every morning, most days before the sun rises, and I PUT IN THE WORK—and guess what? My heart and lung strength is stronger and CAN do the endurance work- because I have been doing the work and I have conditioned my body to succeed over the past two years—notice I said 'YEARS'- it did not and will not happen over night- success is often not linear and it takes TIME. Be patient as you put in the work.

Like so many other things in life—where you put in consistent effort and DO THE WORK, CONSISTENTLY; when you show up even when you don't want to, and you do the things that you know will get you to the goal; that is when you win. That is when you achieve that goal you set for yourself. That is when you know you have gotten better at the hard. GROWTH.?
