Get Back To Work
Some running gags are better than others. Certain old people talk about the same topics every day. Referring to jello wrestling wasn't funny then and the next six hundred times it is referred to? Still not funny.
There was jello wrestling in high school. It was a successful event. I was glad there wasn't jello on the menu in the cafeteria the following Monday. That recollection is more interesting than the geriatric nincompoops who are afraid to work. They cry out for help as soon as the smallest amount of work they were hired to accomplish arrives.
The elderly rely on young men of color. Isn't that always the case? The ones who are- sing it with me- young, gifted and black- have a phrase they repeat among friends. Get back to work! It is soothing hearing this.
This has spread through many departments. It's a way to end a conversation. Sometimes management takes a Puritanical view over small talk. The audacity that people are enjoying themselves at work- isn't that what employee engagement is? We can talk and work.
The ones who blather about nothing come to a complete stop to run their mouths. Work and talk. Don't just talk. The hard workers- the ones who say "Get back to work!" open the door for the ones who work slowly on purpose knowing someone will cover for them. The young work hard while the old are entitled and think they deserve something because they are here.
Which is why I do not pigeonhole generations. It has always depended on the individual and journeys are similar. It's nice to see young men (and more women) who want to work opposed to the old who go to great lengths not to accomplish anything more than they have to. That leads to a paycheck and no legacy.
