Ansley Real Estate Christie's International
Perfecting the craft of real estate.
As winter gives way to warm spring weather, Blue Ridge transforms into a splendid haven of wildflowers, scenic views, and outdoor adventures. Whether you’re planning a couples’ retreat, a friends’ getaway, or a solo trip to recharge your batteries, here are some of the best activities to enjoy while you’re in town.
Get Out and Smell the (Wild) Flowers
April to May is the perfect time to see wildflowers like Lady’s Slipper, Trout Lily and Dwarf Crested Iris that are secluded near trails and waterfalls. May-June is Mountain Laurel and Rhododendron season, when walls of colorful blooms can be seen almost everywhere you look.
Explore Local Hiking Trails
Whether you’re looking for the perfect photo-op or just a place to exercise in peace, hiking trails are everywhere in Blue Ridge. If you’re new to the area, visit the Toccoa River Swinging Bridge, which is 270 feet long and the longest of its kind in the eastern United States. There are also five waterfalls you can hike to, ranging from just 0.1 mile to 9.5 miles. Two of the best hiking spots in the area are the Appalachian Trail and the Benton MacKaye Trail, both of which start at Springer Mountain in the Chattahoochee National Forest in southern Fannin County.
Ansley Mountain & Lake Pro Tip: If you decide to explore the Benton MacKaye trail, keep your eyes out for pink and purple Lady Slippers, which bloom each spring.
Unique Libations and Live Music
Earlier, we mentioned how Blue Ridge is also a great place for fun a fun night out, and that’s due mostly to the Downtown district. Create your own beer and wine trail using the digital Blue Ridge Brews and Wineries map. Many of the restaurants and bars in town feature live music on the weekends, along with local brews, wines, and cocktails.
Plan Your Visit Around Springtime Events
If you’re a lover of fishing and the Great Outdoors, mark your calendar for April 27th for the Blue Ridge Trout & Outdoor Adventures festival. New this year is the Tagged Trout Tourney, where visitors can bag tagged trout leading up to the event and redeem those tags for prizes. Of course, there’s also the Arts in the Park Festival, a Southeastern Tourism Society Top 20 event, which takes place May 25-26, 2024. This festival marks the Blue Ridge Mountains Arts Association’s 45th year of the Arts in the Park festival in the Downtown City Park.
