Get Ahead in Seafood Industry: KOLTIVA’s Traceability Benefits Await!????

As the seafood industry experiences rapid growth, we have a unique opportunity to lead the charge toward sustainability and innovation. With global fisheries and aquaculture production reaching a record high of 223.2 million tonnes in 2022—a 4.4% increase from 2020, this growth comes significant challenges, particularly the need for transparency and accountability in supply chains (The State of World Fisheries: 2024). Illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing continues to endanger marine ecosystems, food security, and market fairness. Read more in our latest article on Southeast Asian fisheries, which tackles these urgent issues and highlights the critical role of transparency in combating IUU fishing.

Aquaculture traceability is another critical area. With the seafood market size is estimated at 720.76 billion USD in 2024 and is projected to reach 771.17 billion USD by 2029, ensuring sustainable sourcing through robust traceability systems is essential. We’ve actively supported aquaculture businesses in Indonesia and the Philippines since 2018, making significant strides in aquatic sector:

??Enhancing Aquaculture Traceability in Indonesia and the Philippines

Spearheaded by our Head of Sectors, Sarah Harding, we’ve helped our clients to implement digital traceability systems for seaweed and shrimp production in Indonesia and Philippines, improving transparency, sustainable sourcing, and combating illegal practices

??Strengthening Public-Private Partnership

We’ve joined forces with key organizations like the Conservation Alliance for Sustainable Seafood Solutions (CASS) and Masyarakat Akuakultur Indonesia, while participating in events such as the Workshop on Standards for Fish Traceability Systems Based on Data Interoperability, and South China Sea Regional Technical Exchange on Fisheries Governance. We are also an endorser of Global Dialogue on Seafood Traceability (GDST) to strengthen our leadership in building transparent, sustainable seafood supply chains.

??Advancing Seafood Traceability

At the "Workshop on Standards for Fish Traceability System”, our Product Manager for Aquatic Resources, Fariz Harwinda, demonstrated how our systems leverage data interoperability to streamline traceability and meet global standards. Our ongoing GDST Capability Test further aligns with best practices for transparency and sustainability.
