Germany has decided to double the number of work visas to 50,000 on June 1, which will be granted to nationals of citizens of six countries in the Western Balkans. Therefore, under the Western Balkans Regulation, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Serbia citizens will enjoy special access to the labor market of Germany from June 1, 2024.

The next visa registration will start on May 7, 2024

Under the Western Balkans Regulation, citizens of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Serbia are all given permission to enter Germany for work purposes. The number of people interested in obtaining work visas in these six countries was very high. Germany is now granting work visas to these six countries based on a monthly lottery drawing system.

The next work visa registration under the Western Balkans Regulation will open on May 7, 2024, and close on May 14, 2024. During this seven-day period, applicants from these six countries must register for visa appointments. Applicants need to register only once, and no changes can be made later. The German authorities will notify applicants selected in the lottery system.

76,000 Western Balkan Workers Were Employed in 2023

At the end of 2023, around 76,000 citizens of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Serbia held work permits in Germany.

In 2022, Germany had around 62,000 workers holding permits from these countries; this data shows a 22% increase in 2023 compared to 2022.
