Hey my gritty friends! It is time for another dose of determination and perseverance. If you have been reading my posts on grit, you know that it is all about pushing through tough times and never giving up. But let us be real, sometimes even the most determined of us need a little boost to keep going. So today, we are going to talk about some unconventional and fun ways to cultivate grit and keep your motivation high.
Music?
Have you ever noticed how a particular song can pump you up and make you feel like you can conquer the world? So, it turns out that there is a science behind it. Apparently, studies have shown that listening to music can increase dopamine levels in the brain. Behold the power of dopamine! It is like the cheerleader of your brain, waving pom-poms and shouting, "You can do it!" According to those brainiacs in white lab coats, listening to music can actually crank up your dopamine levels, making you feel happier and more motivated than a squirrel chasing a never-ending supply of acorns. Dopamine is like a mental high-five, but way better and way more legal.?
Ehm, whether you are tackling a daunting work project or summoning the willpower to clean out that chaotic closet of yours, music is your secret weapon. It is the catalyst that turns "I can't" into "Watch me slay this!" So GERKs, embrace the power of music! Let the rhythm guide your steps, the melody lift your spirits, and let the beats be your companion on this adventure we call life. Importantly, understand that you alone hold the key to your own motivation. When life tries to bring you down, just press play, let the music wash over you like a tidal wave of awesomeness, and watch as you conquer challenges with a smile on your face and a spring in your step. So, the next time you are feeling discouraged, put on your favorite pump-up playlist, and let the beats lift you up as you dance your way to success!?
Positive People
Another way to cultivate grit is to surround yourself with positive, like-minded people. As if you did not know that already… Anyway, as the saying goes, you are the company you keep. So, my friend, surround yourself with those who exude optimism, determination, and motivation. Having a support system is crucial when we experience challenges and can make all the difference when things get tough. Seek out the people who will sprinkle sunshine on your rainy days and inspire you to reach for the stars. Not to turn you into a narcissist, but you should seek out individuals with integrity who will not sell your secrets to the paparazzi but will be like your very own personal cheerleaders, cheering you on when life throws curveballs your way. With them by your side, you have an increased chance of overcoming your challenges with a smile on your face and the resilience of a superhero. Furthermore, remember that when you surround yourself with people who are also driven, motivated, and optimistic, their energy can be contagious. Importantly, understand that you are the captain of your tribe, so be prudent and carefully choose those with whom you associate – let their positive energy propel you towards greatness!?

Being Creative
Are you feeling stuck or in a rut? This is where a little creativity can come in handy. Try approaching your challenges from a different angle or finding a new way to approach your goals. Sometimes, all it takes is a fresh perspective to break through a mental block and keep moving forward. For instance, imagine you are a detective investigating the mysterious case of “The Missing Motivation.” You have hit a dead end, and all the conventional methods have failed you. But wait! Instead of the same tired old approach, you decide to put on your Sherlock Holmes hat and channel your inner genius. You start examining the evidence from a different angle, rearranging the puzzle pieces, and voila! The solution presents itself, clear as day. This week, look at the tasks you must accomplish and figure what it is that you could do differently. Of course, I mean different and better.
Humor?
Let us not forget the power of humor. You know what they say: "A giggle a day keeps the stress monsters away!" Picture this: you are knee-deep in a swamp of deadlines, responsibilities, and a mountain of to-do lists that would make even the most organized person break into a cold sweat. Before giving in to the urge to stress out, consciously take a step back. I know… It is easier said than done. However, you have to be mindful about things that cause stress and combat it with deliberate laughter. Now, I am not just talking about a chuckle here and there. I am talking about full-on belly-shaking, tears-streaming-down-your-face laughter. The kind that makes you snort, that makes your abs ache (bonus workout!), and that makes those around you question your sanity. That's the good stuff right there!
Scientifically speaking, laughter is like a superhero cape for your brain. Laughter has been shown to reduce stress, boost mood, and even increase creativity - revving up your creative engine like a turbo-charged blender. So, the next time you are feeling overwhelmed, or you feel like your motivation is hiding in a dark corner, take a laughter break. Watch a funny video, read a humorous article, or indulge in some good old-fashioned slapstick comedy. Not only will it give you a mental break, but it might also inspire a new perspective on your situation.
Seeking Support
Finally, you must never be afraid to ask for help when you need it. It is easy to get caught up in the idea that we need to do everything on our own, but the truth is, we all need support from time to time. Do not think that asking for help is a sign of weakness. Whether it is asking a friend for advice or hiring a coach or mentor, reaching out for help can be a powerful way to stay motivated and on track.
So, there you have it, GERKs. Keep pushing forward, stay positive, and do not forget to have a little fun along the way. With a little creativity and a lot of determination, there is nothing you cannot accomplish.
