Georgia Motor Vehicle Crimes Prevention Authority signed into Law
Some very important and ground breaking legislature went into effect this month in Georgia that was spearheaded by some South East Regional Chapter of IAATI members. First, on 04/26/2023, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp passed Georgia House Bill 286 which created the Georgia Motor Vehicle Crimes Prevention Authority. This is a major establishment for the law enforcement entities of the State of Georgia as this will establish a grant program to support local law enforcement agencies and to assist with establishing and funding multi jurisdictional auto theft task-forces. The Georgia Motor Vehicle Crimes Prevention Authority will also provide a representation of state wide data collection to provide reporting and recommendations to the governing bodies on related matters in regards to conflicting laws and other matters pertaining to Auto Crimes. The South East Regional Chapter of IAATI President Mark Carter said "The idea of this legislation was developed out of meetings within the SERC of IAATI and carried over within the Georgia Auto Theft Intelligence Council. (GATIC). This underscores the importance of the of intelligence and training organizations enabling both the public and private sectors to work together for the good of the citizens.?I also want to thank Chris McDonold (Maryland), Peter Lazear (Virginia), and Robert Force (Colorado) who shared the information on State Organizations which are well established and successful in their states." The South East Regional Chapter of IAATI President Mark Carter would like to thank Steve Levetan of Pull-A-Part, and Derick Corbett of Pull-A-Part who contributed an extensive amount of work to see that this legislation was passed and the Georgia Motor Vehicle Crimes Prevention Authority was created. A special thanks goes out to Charlie Worsham of NICB, Harshida Davis of Enterprise Rent-A Car, Major Michael O’Connor of Atlanta Police Department, Sgt. Ric Barber Chamblee Police Department, and Agent Jared Coleman of Georgia Bureau of Investigation for their contributions as well.
