FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MACON, Ga. – April 4, 2020 - As the United States adheres to new norms of frequently washing hands with antibacterial soap and practicing social distancing, staff and detainees in correctional facilities are realistically unable to adopt recommended protocols.
The Center for Disease Control (CDC’s) recommendation to use alcohol-based hand sanitizers is absolutely prohibited in most prisons and jails, due to the current correctional institutions’ contraband standards.
After a request from a residential adolescent substance abuse facility in North Florida (whose patients had started to drink alcohol-infused hand sanitizers), Healthy Place Now (HPN) has ramped up production and availability of an effective, 100% all-natural, toxin-free, alcohol-free, anti-viral hand sanitizers.
“The most important thing is to try to keep COVID-19 out of prisons,” said Prison Fellowship President, CEO James Ackerman. “An outbreak of COVID-19 in the general population of a prison population is going to be a nightmare.”
According to experts who appeared on a recent TV News segment on ABC News with George Stephanopoulos, the conditions in prisons amid the coronavirus pandemic are not just threatening those incarcerated, but also presenting a broader public health crisis.
"This is going to drive the entire epidemic curve for this nation up, just when we’re trying to flatten it," said
Dr. Homer Venters, an epidemiologist and former chief medical officer of the NYC Correctional Health Services while being interviewed by ABC News Chief Anchor George Stephanopoulos on that same broadcast.
At the Cook County Jail in Chicago, one of the largest single-site jails in the country, the number of cases continue to spike. Its first two detainees tested positive on March 23 and by April 3, 210 detainees tested positive, according to the sheriff’s office.
"There is no such thing as social distancing inside prisons," said Topeka K. Sam, a prison reform activist advocating for the release of elderly, nonviolent prisoners due to the pandemic.
Upon recognizing the immense need for all administrators, guards and prisoners to be able to be equally as protected as other industries, Healthy Place Now (HPN) immediately began offering its 100% Organic, Toxin-Free, Contraband [Alcohol] Free hand sanitizers to correctional institutions.
“The commercial brands of hand sanitizers are alcohol based. After 2 minutes of protection, the alcohol dries, leaving your fingers and hands drier and more porous...making it that much easier for viruses and bacteria to get into your body and spread infection,” said Dr. Murray J. Riggins, Jr., an Emergency Physician for over 24 years. “Healthy Place Triple Strength 100% Organic Hand Sanitizer gives me up to 4 hours of protection. I don’t go anywhere without it,” added Dr. Riggins.
What makes HPN Hand sanitizer so unique, is its powerful combination of protection, hydration and essential oils, that may boost the immune system, such as:
- Oregano Essential Oil, which has high amounts of Omega-3s, Iron, Manganese and Vitamin K that may help fight bacteria and viruses, reduce inflammation and relieve discomfort.
- Lemon Essential oil is a natural detoxifier; it is also an antiseptic and disinfectant and has anti-fungal properties.
- Tea Tree Oil -- one of the most well-known essential oils for purifying and cleansing -- effectively supports wellness and helps to improve health conditions linked to free radicals*.
Additionally, HPN’s alcohol-free, 100% organic, triple strength alkaline-based Hand Sanitizing Gels and Sprays can provide protection up to 4 hours and a 1 oz. bottle will last for 30 days when used 7 times a day.
HPN stands prepared to provide county, state and federal facilities with a viable, cost-effective solution to further protect our valued correctional workforce, as well as the offenders for which early release is not a responsible public safety option.
