The safety of railway operations not only depends on the well-established laws and regulations as we have here in Canada (https://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/acts/R-4.2/page-1.html), but also on the conditions and instability of the soil supporting the rail track system. These conditions may change naturally due to severe weather conditions, soil erosion and also due to engineering and construction work in the vicinity of the rail tracks.

We all have seen the magnitude of what can happen when rail accidents occur. Not a Joke, Folks!!. (as J. Biden used to say).
