GeoNB Map Viewer Tips - Issue #1
My first tip is about making measurements of area. There are two tools in the GeoNB Map Viewer that can make measurements - the Measurement tool and the Draw tool:
To define the area you want to measure (this applies to both the Measurement tool and Draw tool):
- select the "Area" measurement button in the tool window
- select the measurement units (acres, square metres, etc.)
- click on the map to define points along the perimeter of the area
- double click to define the last point in the perimeter and the measurement value will be displayed.
- if you are not happy with the shape of the area you defined just hit the "Clear" button and start again.
The Measurement tool is simpler with fewer options and the measured values are displayed in the tool window, not on the map, as shown in the table above in the left column. One small advantage to the Measurement tool is that you can change the units after you define the area on the map and the measurement value will be updated. With the Draw tool you must select the measurement units before you define the area on the map.
The Draw tool is primarily intended to allow users to add text, lines, symbols, and shapes to the map but it also includes a "Show Measurement" option to permit the Draw tool to act as an enhanced version of the Measurement tool. You can display multiple area measurements on the map at the same time and easily select a different colour for each measurement as shown in the table above in the right column. The Draw tool displays the measured value on the map and on any printed maps created with the Print tool (the Print tool will be a subject for a future article).
Both the Measurement tool and the Draw tool have a hidden feature - they both interact with the Layers tool. When you create measurements and shapes on the map, new layers are added to the Layers tool. This will permit you to hide and unhide the measurements and shapes you have added to the map:

5 年Bernie, what is the licensing model for WAB? We still have to rewrite some old map viewers (virtualEarth) into something new.
