Welcome to the second edition of "Opening Bell."
Figured I'd start by introducing myself to those of you who are new around here! I’m Kristin Andree, a recovering advisor turned business strategist, coach, speaker, podcaster, and author. I stepped down from my role as a managing director & financial advisor FIFTEEN YEARS AGO (man, time flies!), to focus on helping other advisors grow themselves, their teams, and their businesses.
In the early years of my advisory career, I quickly grew tired of the old school, salesy prospecting & engagement strategies I was being taught (cringe!). They definitely worked - and I had built a very successful business - yet the strategies felt inauthentic and impersonal. I could not fathom chasing prospects and being in "sales" for the rest of my career. I wanted to ADVISE...I wanted to attract & guide my ideal clients to their idea of success.
I knew there was a more meaningful way to build my practice and to guide clients to personal, professional, and financial success - one that was rooted in being authentic, genuine, and truly myself. This led me to develop and advocate for a philosophy that would define my career and success. It is also the basis for how I coach my clients to build their businesses: “KNOW your people, FIND your people, LOVE 'em hard.”
This week, let’s dive into how this motto can transform YOUR client acquisition and client retention approach and help you create more profound, authentic client relationships.
Step 1: KNOW Your People
Personal Connection is Key: Enhance your understanding of your current clients and team members. Truly get to know them - far beyond basic demographics. How do they think? What are their dreams & aspirations? What stresses them out? Where can you find them (online & off)?
This week, schedule a virtual or in-person chat with someone you haven’t spoken to in a while, and use this time to learn more about them and their life - no business talk allowed.
Step 2: FIND Your People
Enhance Your Visibility: The key to building a thriving & sustainable financial practice is ATTRACT your ideal client, not chase them! Make sure you're putting your authentic self out there & letting "your people" know that you are FOR them!
This week, use LinkedIn to talk about a topic you are passionate about, or an issue you know is impacting your ideal target market. This strengthens your brand and help you attract like-minded individuals.

Step 3: LOVE 'em Hard
Show Genuine Appreciation: Your ideal clients & prospects want to know they matter - far beyond the work you are doing with their finances. The top advisors we coach have a well thought out (and fun!) system for client engagement - encompassing both planned AND spontaneous strategies.
Here's a easy start for you: This week, send a personalized note or a small token to someone who has significantly impacted your business journey or has consistently been an exemplary client. Make it clear how much you value their support and dedication.
Reflect at the end of the week on the new connections you’ve built, and the ones you've strengthened. Ask yourself how you can do even more to KNOW - FIND - LOVE your people in the weeks to come.
