India has reached a significant milestone in its renewable energy journey by surpassing 100.33 gigawatts (GW) of installed solar capacity. This achievement highlights the country’s commitment to clean energy and marks a major step in reducing reliance on fossil fuels. The growth in solar energy is the result of continuous efforts by the government, industry leaders, engineers, and investors working together to harness the sun’s power.
The Captive Power Producers Association (CPPA) filed a petition with the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) seeking amendments in the Open Access Regulations to allow wind-solar-thermal hybrid power plants in Maharashtra. The petition aimed to facilitate hybrid power generation under the National Wind-Solar Hybrid Scheme, 2018, and the Ministry of Power’s 2022 scheme for bundling renewable energy with thermal and hydropower. CPPA also requested an interim relief to allow its members to connect their hybrid power plants to the state’s transmission and distribution networks.
NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), a subsidiary of NTPC Limited, has announced the incorporation of a new joint venture company, AP NGEL HARIT AMRIT LIMITED. The company was officially registered on February 6, 2025, as a 50:50 joint venture between NTPC Green Energy Limited and the New & Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh Limited, a government entity.
Gensol Engineering Limited has secured an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract worth approximately ?967.98 crore (including GST) for the development of a 245 MW Solar PV Project at Khavda RE Power Park in the Rann of Kutch, Gujarat. The contract also includes three years of operation and maintenance (O&M) services. This latest project win further strengthens Gensol’s presence in India’s renewable energy sector.
