Thank you to Paul Stevenson, Genius Within Ambassador, for his photo of the month contribution!?

The fact that bluebells are an indicator species for ancient woodlands is quite fascinating. Their presence often signifies that the woodland is at least 400 years old. This means that bluebell woods in the UK are likely to date back to at least 1600.

Ancient woodlands, where bluebells are commonly found, have remained largely undisturbed over centuries. This long history of minimal disruption has allowed a rich diversity of flora and fauna to thrive.

What is your favourite?thing about working for Genius Within?

My favourite thing about working for Genius Within is how much I learn through every single interaction I have here. I think we are a warm, supportive, and incredibly knowledgeable community, and it has been humbling to share this space with everyone.

What motivates you at work?

Being able to hold space for people as they go on their journeys, and knowing that I'm not alone as I do this.

What is your favourite way to unwind after a day of work?

I love lying in bed and listening to music as I read books (I usually 4-5 books on rotation at once), or having music/a podcast play in the background as I cook.

Pride Month at GW

"June is Pride month and it got me thinking, what does it really mean for me as a neurodivergent adult, and why Pride continues to be important now? Personally, Pride represents how far we’ve come as a community. It’s a celebration of difference and diversity and being able to live and work as my most authentic ND self. It’s a chance to reflect on the work of those that have come before us, a fight that’s still not over and celebrating those who fought so that we can live better lives.

It’s also a protest, a statement, a mission that we must continue to fight for equality. I recognise that as a cis-het gay man in Western Europe I have privileges that very many others do not. I am lucky to be where I am. I own my own house, have an amazing partner, and I work with friends in a company that is truly inclusive and allows me to be me!

But we as a community are facing challenging times with unprecedented levels of attack on the community, being antagonised by right-wing ‘celebrities’, mainstream media, and politicians. There are record numbers of anti-LGBTQIA+ laws and legislation being passed in the UK and around the world under the guise of “traditional values”. The laws include attacks against gender-affirming healthcare, preventing kids learning about differences, and criminal charges simply for being gay including jail sentences and death sentences. We must continue to fight, showing our support for all members of our community.

Research repeatedly shows that neurodivergence is more common in the LGBTQIA+ community than it is among the cisgender, heterosexual population. If we want more acceptance of neurodivergent individuals in our workplaces, then we must also recognise the overlaps with LGBTQIA+ communities and accept that sex and gender identities are not binary.

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging should not be selective. You’re either in or your out. This Pride month, I challenge you all to consider what Pride really means, and take a moment to think about what you can do as an ally! ????"

Thank you so much for joining us for the June edition of the Genius Within newsletter.

We hope the rest of June is as sunny and bright as the last couple of weeks?

See you next month...
