I recently rewatched one of my favorite movie, "Aaha Na Pellanta (1987)". The movie is available to stream for free on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z7TOvBDF5d8&ab_channel=SureshProductions ). As a matter of fact, it is in the top 4 list of movies.
My top four movies in the order:
1. The Dark Knight
2. Aaha Na Pellanta
3/4. Inception/The Matrix
The Dark Knight very narrowly beat Aaha Na Pellanta. Christopher Nolan and Jandhyala are two of my all time favorite directors.
The first time I watched the movie (Aaha Na Pellanta), when I was a kid, I was literally on the floor laughing. I thought to myself, "I didn't think anyone can laugh this hard for this long". That is how much I enjoyed watching the movie.
The movie doesn't have any crude or sex jokes. It doesn't make fun of any category or sect of people. It doesn't have any double meaning dialogues. It is a pure family oriented fun movie which you can watch with kids.

After enjoying the movie for nth time, I decided to write some of the genius aspects of the movie I noticed.
1. Krishna (Rajendra Prasad) tells Lakshmipathy?(Kota Srinivasa Rao) that he owns only one pair of clothes when he first meets him. That is half way through the movie. After that scene, every time Krishna meets Lakshmipathy, Krishna wears the same pair of clothes. There are couple of exceptions to this, and they are clearly justified. First when Krishna teaches Padma how to sing and dance and second during his wedding. I am surprised, to be honest, at that level of detail.
2. Ara Gundu (Brahmanandam) character has a stutter in the movie. It makes for a very good comedic timing. He goes into his internal voice whenever he feels like he wants to scold Lakshmipathy. When he talks to himself he never stutters which is physiologically correct.
3. Climax comedy between Ara Gundu (who stutters) and?Gundu Hanumantha Rao (who is deaf). The stuttering guy can't say words clearly and the deaf guy always listens something when the stuttering guy won't say anything. To put this scene in the midst of a emotional scene is pure genius.
4. Even the songs between Krishna and Padma are creative and funny. For example in one song Krishna breaks everything in the hotel and in another song Krishna and Padma randomly dances to every commercial from radio from every language.
One of the genius aspects of Nolan movies is you can enjoy his movies even when you don't understand them. For example, Inception and Interstellar. One of the genius aspects of Jandhyala movies is you can enjoy his (comedy) movies numerous times as if you are watching it for the first time. Aaha Na Pellanta was released 35 years ago but still it is one of the most popular movies in Telugu industry. To create a full length (two and half hour) comedy movie that still lives in people's heart for 3 generations without any crude jokes is extremely difficult. Here is Nolan himself on why he won't do a comedy movie https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3UiRt3wDXz0
Finally, I eagerly wait for new Nolan movies. I do miss Jandhyala's pure comedy movies.
