Generosity Beyond Money
"Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver." - 2 Corinthians 9:7 (NVI)
Often, when we hear about generosity, our minds think of monetary donations. But generosity is all about the heart and the spirit behind the action.
Think about a time when someone just listened to you—genuinely paid attention without glancing at their phone. Remember how that felt? That was a gift of attention, an often overlooked form of generosity.
Or consider a moment when you were down, and a friend took time out of his busy schedule to grab coffee, chat, and just be there for you. He was being generous with his time.
In this world where time feels shorter, and attention spans are like a blink of an eye. Since everyone seems to be in a rush, perhaps the most precious gift you can give to someone is your time. Your attention. A listening ear, a helping hand, or a moment of shared laughter can be more valuable than money.
Society whispers, if not outright shouts, that our value is determined by our bank balance, the car we drive, or the house we live in. But this verse in the apostle Paul's letter to the Corinthians tells us that God loves a cheerful giver.
So, next time you feel the nudge to be generous, remember that it's not just about opening your wallet but opening your heart. After all, sometimes the smallest act, like offering just a moment of your time, can have the most profound impact.
