Mom (87) recently had a serious health crisis with two heart attacks over 48 hours resulting in hospitalization and a surgically placed stent as part of her care and recovery.? Besides being upset with me for posting her age, Mom is getting stronger and recovering very well.? We are very blessed and she gives all glory to God for her recovery.?
With Mom returning home, my sister Mitzi arranged for day sitters to help Mom and Pop Joe while she recovered.? This is when the doorbell began to constantly ring as Mom received generous gifts of food for meals.? Casseroles, pies, cakes, meat, and many other treats until the refrigerator and freezer were overrun.? They literally had no more room for food, and if you visited, they were going to try to get you to eat or take some food with you.?Ha! Yet what an amazing blessing and it is a leadership life lesson for us today.?
I have written in previous blogs about Mom’s generosity in serving others with her wonderful cooking whenever she hears of a friend or family with a need.?Sometimes, when she has cooked more than she and Pop Joe can eat, she simply shares it with a neighbor.?Well, all those good deeds came home to roost all at once.? Mom’s steadfast generosity over the years resulted in an avalanche of food, prayers, and well wishes.?
Generosity always begets more generosity.?When we are generous, we are constantly blessed, including the joy of serving others.? We can be generous in so many different ways, including with our time, our wisdom, our talents, our food, our money, acts of service, and certainly with our words and prayers.?
Let’s each make sure to be intentional with an act of generosity this week that someone is not expecting.?
