A few weeks ago a claxon vibrated in my pocket when I got a keyword alert from Leo, one of Feedly 's AIs. The text told me Mairéad Pratschke, PhD had dropped a book that matched my wishlist parameters.
I've rented the book from Kindle and asked my campus library to purchase a hard copy. They politely pointed me at Elsevier where I can get the words without killing trees. I can't highlight rented Kindle content on my 5yo Samsung Note but I was able to port highlights from the Kindle Web Reader into Readwise where I could connect Generative AI and Education to my Obsidian vault. I use Obsidian as my second brain, something Filipe Santos and I plan to share during a RUN-EU Short Advanced Programme (SAP).
Filipe and I have planned 13 hands-on activities for students to generate content with the help of automated workflows, open data sets, and artificial intelligence. One of those activities will be with the help of Google Gemini and NotebookLM.
After I read and highlighted Generative AI and Education, I reviewed the highlights inside Readwise and then ported those notes as a text document that NotebookLM accepted. I typed a few questions into a chat box, asked for an audio response, then made a cup of coffee.

The result came back in less than five minutes. I snapped the WAV file into Spreaker Record and introduced the Topgold Audio Clip podcast with a short explanation. The segment is available as a Topgold Audio Clip wherever you find good audio.
I've listened to a few people who explained their workflows with NotebookLM. During one of his podcasts, Neville Hobson offered a few tips about the content inside the documents and the sophistication of the prompts made to NotebookLM. I'm sharing some of these power tips during a late November workshop with Frances O. at Online Educa Berlin and I plan to share related insights on my microblog.
In this fast-moving realm of generativism, new multimodal services such as NotebookLM will enhance traditional teaching and learning environments. I'm enthused about the engaging opportunities ahead.

4 个月You read my book twice??! ?? This is super interesting - the podcast you’ve produced from my book is much better than the one I generated from the short article I tested NotebookLM with. Hopefully this also means the book is better than a 5-page article! ?? Oh and btw, the AI hosts can’t say Mairéad but they do alright with Pratschke. Thanks for this Bernard!
