Generative design and genetic algorithms make logic-based decisions easy. User need to set geometrical logics and objectives to achieve by the software... Software rolls the slider of various possibilities... And creates multiples options matching your objectives.

It is very detailed topic but if i brief you about procedure...

Assume that we need to make a plan of house..

1?? Prepare mathemetical defination of plan (For ex. You are using dynamo/grasshopper software... Prepare definitions of rooms with visual programming.

2?? Set various variable slider with range (For ex. We want to have Bed room in between 3 to 5 meter in width and depth... Set range in it)

3?? Set objectives in Generative design tool (for ex. Kitchen should be near to?Drg.room, Bed room should have maximum possible width, toilet should have set to west direction etc.)

4?? Start G.D., it will hit trial and error for various inputs and sees which objectives has matched how much % of requirements, gives you various option

5?? Done ! Just choose your fav. Option to go with.

This GD method saves lots of time for preparing multiple options... For site plan, building design, Structural systems etc... The limitation is our imagination and computing power.
