I can't believe we're already at issue #10!
Last week we created a Generative AI Twitter group. Now, it's already over 500 members. If you're interested, please join us!
For those celebrating Christmas, we wish you a Merry Christmas. Lot of exciting things to cover this week.
Let's get to it.
In today's issue:
??MOST INNOVATIVE PRODUCT: Creative Reality? Studio
This week we're featuring D-ID's Creative Reality? Studio, which recently hit Product Hunt's Product of the Day and Product of the Week, an incredible accomplishment for any startup.?
They made a great video explaining how it works.
They describe it as the world's first platform to combine GPT-3, Stable Diffusion, and their unique face animation technology.
With it, you can easily create realistic, lifelike avatars that can speak and express themselves using your own words and ideas.
Technology like this can dramatically reduce costs and open up new opportunities that weren't possible before. Imagine using it to create an avatar that gives a presentation for your company in many different languages. Or as a teacher for students to learn at their own pace using AI.
I'm excited to see how this technology develops and what people create with it.
??AI NEWS: Google tries to read doctors' handwriting, NASA maps moon surface using AI, FIFA World Cup AI predictions were 67% accurate
Google attempts the impossible: reading doctors' handwriting
Google is working with pharmacists to?decipher the handwriting?of doctors using AI —?but it hasn't made any commitments towards a public release and the project is currently a research prototype. It works by processing images sent by users, and detecting the medicines mentioned in the prescription note.
Separately, Google also?announced?Confident Adaptive Language Modeling (CALM)?for 3x faster text generation with language models, presented at?NeurIPS 2022.
NASA is developing AI to navigate the lunar surface using landmarks
A NASA engineer is?teaching?a machine to use features on the Moon's horizon to navigate across the lunar surface.
"For safety and science geotagging, it's important for explorers to know exactly where they are as they explore the lunar landscape. Equipping an onboard device with a local map would support any mission, whether robotic or human." —?Alvin Yew, research engineer at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center
World Cup: Kashef AI predicted results with 67% accuracy
Al Jazeera's?Kashef AI?crunched the numbers to predict the results of each game during the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
It didn't predict Argentina as the winner, but did call out several results better than random chance, and better than humans in many of the polls.

??THINGS WE LEARNED: AI scripts and directs movies now, deepfakes could be a huge problem
?? Prompt Tip of the Week:?When creative energy runs dry, use the tools and resources that are available to you ??
The Safe Zone: First Film DIRECTED & WRITTEN by Artificial Intelligence
Using ChatGPT, Richard Juan and Aaron Kemmer were able to have a short film scripted and directed completely by AI.
ChatGPT's assistance included a full shot list, specific instructions for the Director of Photography and camera operators (choice of camera lenses, camera movements and lighting requirements), recommendations on wardrobe preferences, and even specific prompts to let Dall-E 2 create a full storyboard.
The 6-minute film is available on YouTube:

Deepfakes could be a huge problem
Deepfakes have a lot of people?worried?right now, with some talking about an "infocalypse." These can be synthetic photos, audio and videos that are created or manipulated by AI to appear real.
People are concerned that Generative AI could be used to spread disinformation, or be used for criminal purposes such as fraud or extortion.
and today, we learned that the US Government has already used AI-generated images for operations in the Middle East.
It's hard to imagine that Russia, China, and all countries with intelligence agencies won't use this technology in the future. And maybe, they already are.
