AI Market Map by User Type and Segment - Sequoia
This market map by Sequoia Capital 's Sonya Huang and Pat Grady gives a comprehensive and in-depth overview of key companies building and using generative AI. The map is grouped by user types (consumer, enterprise and prosumer) and further divided into their various appplication areas. And even better: They update it regularly.

And yes, Sequoia — possibly the world’s best VC company — is heavily invested in AI.
Generative AI Trend Map by Medium
Base10 Partners offers a different perspective. Here, startup companies are primarily organized by the medium and subtype the AI produces, e.g. data, image, text, audio and then marketing copy, general writing, summarization. The MLOps box we'll see much more extensive in a map of CB Insights below.

Generative AI Landscape by Medium / Use Case
At first glance, DataCamp 's Richard Cotton 's Generative AI Landscape may seem to be structured similarily, being grouped by medium (text, image, audio, video, etc.) However, the subcategories —such as Note taking & Document Summarization— are deeper and much more specific, allowing for a more accurate search for particular use cases.

Conversational AI Technology Landscape
Cobus Greyling 's landscape focuses on conversational AI and the components are technologies and not companies, like Whisper, Azure, etc.

Foundation Models Timeline
ML6 | Your partner in AI offers a really neat timeline of open source and commercial foundation models, ranging from GPT-2 in 2019 to Falcon in 2023. The timeline includes text, speech and image-creating models as well as papers published on these subjects.

Generative AI for Healthcare
A first comprehensive market map for generative AI in an industry. It specializes entirely on healthcare by Justin Norden, MD, MBA, MPhil , Jon Wang and Ambar Bhattacharyya . This landscape gives an excellent overview of generative AI applied in different areas of the healthcare system, such as diagnostics or research. As an added bonus, the map lists the amount of funding raised for each of these areas.

And now, back to our regular digest: unveiling the highlights of the past fortnight:
Baidu introduces Ernie 4.0
When it comes to major news, the Chinese AI landscape has maintained an unusually hushed demeanor in the last months —yet, there's a recent stir that demands undivided attention. 百度 — described by many as the Chinese equivalent of Google— has now presented Ernie 4.0. Baidu founder Robin Li demonstrated Ernie’s impressive abilities to respond to complex queries, thereby cementing its position alongside leading Western models such as GPT-4. In Li’s own words:
Ernie 4.0 stands on par with GPT-4 in terms of overall performance. – Robin Li on Ernie 4.0’s capabilites

Apple's AI Siri
We’ve all been there: You ask Siri about the weather tomorrow and instead she dials one of your in-laws. But there is hope: It is speculated that 苹果 is incorporating generative AI into iOS 18. This would mean a significantly enhanced Siri, able to communicate with users at ChatGPT-level. It remains to be seen however, whether Apple can catch up with the fast moving frontiers of technology or if the ship has sailed.
Thank you guys, have a great week, may the world align with your wishes! Maximilian
