Generative AI is just the tip of the AI mountain...

Everybody is talking about ChatGPT and DALL-E, but generative AI is just the tip of the AI mountain. Here is a list of how AI will reshape many industries:

Financial Services

Traditionally, only the rich could have a financial advisor. AI is able to become an advisor to the masses. The next generation of AI will take into account who you are, how much you earn, what you have invested in, and make recommendations on tax-efficient investments and even complex transactions like equity release. AI can also manage investment funds, do underwriting, detect fraud, manage risk, get insurance quotes and audit financial instituitions. Financial services companies that aren't using AI today are at risk of being disrupted by competitors who automate existing manual and semi-automated processes.

Transport and Automotive

Electric vehicles are disrupting internal combustion engines, but the bigger disruption is autonomous driving vehicles. One robot taxi that is used by 10 families will potentially reduce car sales by 80%. Public transport will become irrelevant. Overnight driving in robot taxi beds can reduce the nights you stay at a hotel and allow for more road trips.

Telecom

AI will manage low-orbit satellites to maximise coverage and minimise collisions. Network planning and operations will be done by AI. Robot tunnelling can make fibre deployments cheaper. Customer support will be done via AI.

Industrial

Robots and AI go hand in hand. More and more production processes will be automated by robots. Operations and maintenance will be planned, predicted, and executed by robots. Robot factories will be able to make products in batch sizes of one. Personalised robot factories will produce only after the customer orders. Robot factories will be installed via containers on the outskirts of major cities.

Retail

Humanoid robots will be sitting inside robot vans and offer 24 x 7 delivery services. Why have supermarkets stock products if products can be made to order based on predicted usage patterns? AI can predict when you'll be running out of shampoo and automatically deliver some extra.

Marketing & Branding

If sensors detect you're hungry, AI can predict and offer you choices around what to eat. For example, you can cook spaghetti with the ingredients in your fridge, Thai can be delivered in 12 minutes, your favourite pub is serving Fish Pie and still has a table free, and so on. Marketing can be embedded inside AI. AI can also design shoes specifically for you and offer different branding options.

Construction

Designing and calculating plans for a new building or road can be done with AI. Diggers, cranes and other construction equipment can be managed by AI. Humanoids can assist.

Education

AI can personalise education to each student. With sensors that monitor eye movement and posture, AI can detect when a student is struggling and provide targeted assistance. AI can also create personalized lesson plans and adapt to the learning pace and style of each student.

Energy

AI can optimise the energy grid to reduce waste and lower costs. Smart meters can communicate with AI systems to predict and manage energy demand. AI can also monitor and diagnose issues in power plants and wind farms, reducing downtime and increasing efficiency.

Agriculture

AI can optimise crop yields by analysing weather patterns, soil conditions, and plant growth. Drones equipped with AI can survey farms and provide real-time data on crop health. AI can also help farmers make better decisions around planting, fertilising, and harvesting crops.

HR

As a human resources director, you are in the wrong place, because more than 50% of the resources in many companies can soon become non-human.

Legal and Politics

AI can write contracts. AI can advise on legal questions. AI has aced the bar exam and is better than 90% of human lawyers.

Most laws are hard to implement. What if we ask AI to come up with better laws? What would happen if a political party uses AI to suggest their programme? To write their speeches? To create and run their marketing campaigns?

Medical and Mental Health

Designing personalised medicines based on reviewing your blood, DNA, X-ray, sensors,... will be possible. ChatGPT already aced medical exams. Deep fake can become realistic fake and convert into your personalised mental health coach.

Entertainment

With all those bored humans who no longer will have to do repetitive, tedious and even dangerous jobs, entertainment will become the key AI industry. Generative AI can write the script and generate the film on-demand. Don't like where things are going. Say stop and ask the movie to be rewritten according to your input. By synchronising with your heartbeat monitor and following your eyes, AI can see what interests you most and rewrite the script even without you telling it.

Environmental Management

AI can monitor and predict changes in the environment, such as deforestation and pollution. AI can also assist in disaster response efforts by analysing data and providing recommendations for relief efforts.

Conclusion

Many people will say that the above examples will take decades or never happen. Just one small detail. ChatGPT was launched on 30 November 2022. AI has the potential to reshape many industries, from finance to education, energy, and environmental management. Companies that do not embrace AI risk being left behind by competitors who use it to automate manual and semi-automated processes. While some may fear that AI will take their jobs, the smarter approach is to join forces with AI to create AI-enhanced human teams that can outperform any individual or AI-only team.
