Maybe it’s just me but I tend to start thinking that the biggest LLM breakthroughs are not necessarily from the biggest companies that can consume and buy the vast amount of data for learning purposes. This is important work and feeds the generative AI research further for sure. But the real deal, I believe, relies in the data which is not available for big tech for money to buy even. And not many want to see those as part of the trillion parameter know-it-all models even. Say medical records and epicrisis texts for example hold a huge potential I’m sure.
