Generation Z Will Change How You Run Your Business

Generation Z Will Change How You Run Your Business

Generation Z, also known as Zoomers, encompasses individuals born between 1997 and 2012. This group is set to revolutionize how businesses approach employee acquisition and retention. While Zoomers are a diverse group with unique strengths and weaknesses, they share several common traits.

Zoomers vs. Millennials in the Workplace

Zoomers are arguably the most educated generation in history and are even more tech-savvy than Millennials. While Millennials were the first generation to grow up with modern technology, Gen Z has been using devices like iPads from a young age. It's a mistake to think of Zoomers as simply an extension of Gen Y; their histories, behaviors, and motivations are distinct.

Two decades ago, Millennials entered the workforce with specific demands, such as work-life balance and a preference for certain types of companies. These demands, driven by their technological skills, led to significant changes in workplace dynamics. Millennials played a crucial role in the widespread adoption of remote work, a model that became essential during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Back to Gen Z

Zoomers are more adaptable and flexible than Millennials. They tend to perform well academically, are highly competitive, and possess a strong work ethic. In the workplace, these traits translate to a group of independent, hardworking employees who expect recognition and opportunities for advancement. While they may not be as demanding as previous generations, they value acknowledgment for their efforts.

Generation Z Believes in Diversity

Thanks to their constant interaction with technology, Zoomers value and expect diversity in their personal and professional lives. Platforms like TikTok have broadened their exposure to different cultures, races, and nationalities. For Gen Z, diversity is the norm, and they expect it in their workplaces.

Zoomers Are Opinionated

Influenced by social media and a rigorous academic background, Generation Z is highly opinionated. They enjoy discussing ethics, world events, and other important topics, expecting their voices to be heard and their ideas considered. While this may sometimes come across as entitled or na?ve, it's important to recognize that Zoomers are exceptionally bright and can offer valuable insights.

Multitasking Comes Naturally to Zoomers

Generation Z's ability to multitask is another asset. They often balanced demanding schedules filled with AP courses, extracurricular activities, and hobbies. This background has equipped them with the skills to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, making them attractive job candidates.

Zees Moving Forward

As Generation Z continues to graduate and enter the workforce, their unique talents and perspectives will become more apparent to employers. The youngest Zoomers are still in school, while the oldest have already started to make their mark in the labor market.

In many ways, Generation Z embodies the best qualities of previous generations: the hard work of Boomers, the emphasis on education from Gen X, and the tech-savviness of Millennials. However, Generation Z also brings something new to the table—they are a bridge to the future of business.

I trust these insights proved valuable.
