Generation She

Generation She

Earlier this year, I came together with Snap, Inc. to beta test an idea under the name She Leads. We gathered 150 high-achieving high school girls in a room for 2 days of ideation, design-thinking, prototyping, digital design, and marketing. Each student ended the makeathon with a fully built out prototype and pitch deck of a viable business idea. We had over 15 successful female founders join us that weekend including Rosie of Sugarfina, Angie of BOOMCHICKAPOP, and Jen of Knock Knock Stuff. 12 high schools girls went home with a mentor (a current successful female founder) who would work with them over the course of the next year to take their business idea to the next level and make it a reality.

The event was an extraordinary success with 93% of attendees reporting back that they had changed their outlook about their career and now wanted to pursue entrepreneurship.

It's completely CHANGED my future. I've NEVER done anything even RELATED to business or entrepreneurship until this makeathon and now it's ALL I want to do even if my own family continues to tell me to settle for something more "stable".

I always thought about working for someone, but never saw myself as a leader.

I want to continue following my dreams and inspiring other young female entrepreneurs as I go. This was really a life changing experience I know I want to create an impact like She Leads has in me.

So, we took She Leads, built upon it with all that we learned, and give you: Generation She. Generation She’s mission is the same—to build the next generation of female leaders by investing specifically in this generation of women, Gen Z'ers. Gen Z women are a powerful group of digital natives, driven by what is right, and have the passion to make change happen. We want to close the gender gap in the current leadership landscape by instilling young women with a sense of ownership and entrepreneurial spirit.

On January 25-26th 2020 we will be hosting our second entrepreneurship makeathon at Lyft HQ in SF.  If you know of any young women who are ambitious, aspiring innovators, please share the event! We are also actively looking for new sponsors, partners, speakers, and female founders who would like to get involved.

But this is just the beginning! Generation She is working on new programs and initiatives that we will be announcing soon. Shoutout to my passionate, dedicated bad-ass team of women who are working hard every day to make hundreds of young women’s dreams a reality: Dani Boyce, Kaitlyn Chu, Shirley Huang, Sarah Kim, Isabella James, Abigail Africa, Callie Bruce, and Katie Chan
