General Purpose Cable Sleeves for Multiple Applications
Cable management is an important part of everyday living, whether it is for a home, office, vehicle, outdoors or other places where wires, cables and hoses exist. General Purpose braided sleeving from Techflex? has been designed to face challenges in these many situations, with expanded sleeves and split wraps that can resist chemicals, fuel, abrasion, moisture, UV and more. The braid in the weave of many of these General Purpose products provide for expansion over cables and connectors, while making wires visible. ?
The sleeves in this category can serve a wide range of purposes, including industrial, marine, automotive and electronic applications; and are used to manage, organize, conceal and protect cables, wires and hoses. Each General Purpose sleeve’s individual materials, weave and qualities determines its usage.
One of the main materials used in the Techflex? General Purpose sleeving category is 10 mil polyethelene therephthalate (PET) monofilament yarn. PET is a polyester thermoplastic resin implemented in automotive manufacturing, food packaging and other industries. It was first discovered and patented by the Calico Printers’ Association in 1941, a British company that specialized in textiles.
Some of the sleeves in the General Purpose category are woven with blends of PET and other materials, to support varying types of wire harnesses. Certain components are used on their own in the sleeving — such as woven polyester fibers — to provide strength, flexibility and accessibility in one product.
Flexo? PET is one of the first products Techflex? introduced and is its most popular and versatile sleeving. It can install quickly on wire harnesses, which reduces assembly costs. Among its many uses, this lightweight sleeving covers, protects and customizes wires, hoses and cables in many applications within homes, offices, vehicles, recording studios and other places. It has also made its way into creative products, such as being implemented into the design of revolutionary athletic shoes, performance golf tees, a baby teething tether product, sports sunglasses and other unique applications.
What makes Flexo? PET such a multipurpose product is it can expand to 150% of its maximum diameter, has a wide temperature range, has the ability to conform to irregular shapes to cover cables and connectors and is made of an open and breathable construction that repels moisture in wire assemblies. It can be cut easily with a pair of scissors, though Techflex? recommends using a hot knife to cleanly terminate the sleeving.? It also resists chemical degradation, UV radiation and abrasion. Techflex? offers the widest range of sizes and colors in the industry (over 80 colors, including patterns and combinations) for its Flexo? PET; and can create custom solid or spiral combinations of braided sleeving.
In cases where more fray resistance is needed, Flexo? PET Plus has the same qualities as Flexo? PET but is coated with resin that enables it to be cut cleanly with ordinary scissors. This makes it perfect for situations where using a hot knife is not possible. It is resistant to UV radiation, chemical degradation and abrasion.
Like other PET sleeving in the General Purpose category, Flexo? Overexpanded? has flexible abilities, but this sleeving type — which can be used easily in automotive or marine wiring applications — can expand up to four times or 200% of its nominal diameter. Its open braid not only increases its flexibility, but can give wire assemblies a more attractive appearance, while making underlying wiring harnesses more visible.
Flexo? Tight Weave, on the other hand, is woven with a tighter braid that provides greater abrasion protection, coverage, wear factor and security for wire harnesses and cable bundles. It comes in unique zig zag patterns, pairing black and neon colors.?
Flexo? ReMix is braided similarly to Flexo? PET but with fuller coverage, enhanced protection and a unique visual effect with color combinations that include Denim, Fire, Camo, Desert Camo and Jungle sleeving looks.

A Flexo? product additionally equipped with a camouflage vibe is Flexo? PrisMix, which can provide camouflage in outdoor settings with its dual-colored monofilament.
Flexo? F6? is a General Purpose sleeving type that is a flexible, semi-rigid, wrappable and split-braided tube made of 10 mil PET. Its split allows for the easiest application that can slip over wire bundles without other fasteners, like Velcro? or tape; and facilitates access to wires, making it easy to change them out. Flexo? F6? has a 25% overlap that can cover inline plugs and connectors. It bends to a tight radius without splitting and can be applied by hand or with the F6? Installation Tool. It is also used for a range of applications, from covering wiring in cars, marine settings or in a home or office.
F6? Woven Wrap also belongs to the F6? family and is made of monofilament and multifilament polyester fibers. This allows for installation without disassembly over wiring for power systems and electronic and communication wires. It has all the benefits of F6? but in a woven construction for a softer, fuller coverage sleeving. This tubular product helps to protect communication, electronic and power systems wires.
Flexible PET is additionally used in F360?, a circular, lightweight conduit that encases wires with a flexible structure to provide extra security and tamper resistance for wires. It has a 360° enclosure yet is still easy to feed wires through the sleeving, because of its ridged design.?
Flexo? Clean Cut? is made of braided PET that has maximum coverage and expansion over plugs and connectors, along with adjusted characteristics and proprietary blend of materials that create a fray-resistance, even when it has been scissor cut. Braided sleeves typically fray badly when cut with scissors and are coated to create non-fray varieties. Flexo? Clean Cut? is, however, revolutionary because it retains its construction without a special coating, even when scissor-cut. In fact, a hot knife is not needed at all for this product, making it ideal for field installers who may not have access to one.
Flexo? Wrap offers a hook and loop closure that can quickly and easily manage long runs of cable, wire and hose assemblies, covering odd-shaped connectors, while gently constricting wire diameters. It helps to solve application challenges, guarding wires against temperatures between -94°F and 257°F; and up to melt temperatures of 482°F.
VersaWraptor?, which is also known as VersaWrap?, is another flexible sleeve within the General Purpose category, that covers wires, hoses and cables with a heavy duty, polyester construction. It works in outdoor applications with an industrial strength, hook and loop closure, such as for covering harnesses to prevent damage from chains, abrasion, gasoline, engine chemicals and salt water.
Grip Wrap? is another General Purpose wrap sleeving, that can be installed on existing wire harnesses, with elastic flexibility and excellent coverage, while allowing for easy access to wires. It also features sealing and mounting options, that can screw into place for a permanent wire duct. The sleeve’s soft texture reduces noise on floors and within recording studios.
Along with other Techflex? sleeving products, General Purpose sleeves are part of the exclusive “5 Ways to Buy” program that provide five different sizing options, either packaged in pouches or wound into spools. Techflex? also offers custom labeling and spooling services.
