General Manager (Mining) - Northern Cape - Job ID 3950

Provision of medium to long term guidance to all employees at the mine. This involves the setting of clear objectives and goals for the operations team to achieve. (i.e. leading the development and ongoing management of the annual budget and monthly operational planning).

Lead and direct all the operations to ensure optimum production and that the medium to long term plans are achieved.

The generation of appropriate production data and reports and to establish the underlying causes behind delays and deviations from plan and to ensure that suitable mitigating measures are prepared and implemented.

Develop an achievement-based mindset amongst all employees that considers the mines operational requirements and challenges. The overarching objective must be to build a strong self-motivated desire amongst all employees to be part of a winning team.

Ensuring the effective management and control of all expenditure and the realisation of the benefits paid for.

The GM will report directly into the Chief Operating Officer.

Position details: Type: Permanent Job description / core competencies: The General Manager should be able to display excellent levels of leadership, innovative initiative, and performance together with a track record of success in managing mining operations and process plants.

More specifically, the incumbent must be able to:

Understand and report on all the financial aspects of the business.

Manage all the key management personnel on site.

Ensure that the necessary systems and processes are in place across the overall mine fora successful and profitable business.

Ensure the overall effectiveness of the operations and the performance of personnel within the Mine Complex, by developing and executing core business strategies for safe, profitable, and sustainable mining and processing of the mineral asset.

Provide effective leadership to the day-to-day management team, including any contractors.

Ensure delivery of the required production targets (i.e., tonnage, volume, grade targets).

Ensure compliance with the provisions of the MHSA and associated Regulations.

Monitor and report on performance against plan.

Identify an opportunity or risk and to develop and implement appropriate measures which ensure that the correct action is taken to address any deviations from plan.

Create, motivate, and maintain an effective performance-based culture on-site so that the team achieves the plan and various underlying targets while also seeking to continue to improve performance over time.

Appropriately enforce the necessary discipline required for safe, healthy, and productive operations across the mine.

Location: Northern Cape

Job Qualifications, Skills & Experience:

BSc Mining Engineering Degree / NHD / Equivalent.

Strong business acumen. An MBA would be advantageous.

Minimum of 15 years' experience in a senior management role on a mine.

Excellent people management skills with the ability to manage a dynamic and diverse team.

Good planning and organisational skills with a firm attention to detail.
