Gender Equality & Empowerment - Women in Maritime

Celebrated annually on 18 May, the International Day for Women in Maritime serves as a vibrant tribute to the maritime industry's commitment towards fostering gender equality. This occasion underscores the vital objectives of recruiting, retaining, and empowering women within the maritime sector, while elevating the prominence of women's contributions in maritime endeavors. Aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 5, which champions gender parity, this day bolsters the International Maritime Organization's (IMO) dedication to rectifying the existing gender disparity in the maritime workforce. The theme for 2023, "Mobilizing networks for gender equality," encapsulates the pivotal role of networking in propelling women's advancement within maritime careers.
