Gender Bias is Ingrained Throughout Our Culture Via Media

Gender Bias is Ingrained Throughout Our Culture Via Media

"Film actress Geena Davis believes that it results, in part, from lopsided male representation in television and film—a long-standing trend observed by the Institute on Gender in Media that she founded. “When we present the data to studios and content creators,” she says, “their jaws are on the ground. In family films, the ratio of male to female characters is 3:1. Shockingly, the ratio of male to female characters has been exactly the same since 1946. Of the characters with jobs, 81 percent are male.”" from McKinsey & Company

Where will change happen? At the top level says a CEO reported by McKinsey. Change initiation needs to happen at the leadership level no matter if men and women don't really think in the same way. Old habits die hard and it will be progressive committed thinker who can afford to take the time and money such an initiative needs. Just as some of the worlds most prominent billionaires recently banned together and formed a coalition to focus on clean energy- the gender issue needs the same. Power and Money will speak on this clearly ...and so far its been a slow burn.  Fortunately the economic return for companies that are committed to gender equality is significant and to remain competitive, other companies will need to follow suit to keep up!

If you are reading this and have executive power in your company, think about balancing the gender representation in all areas of your firm for the benefit of your firms bottom line!
