Artwork of the day: The Tower of Babel, Pieter Bruegel the Elder, circa 1568
Pieter Bruegel the Elder was among the most significant artists of Dutch and Flemish Renaissance painting, a painter and printmaker, known for his landscapes and peasant scenes; he was a pioneer in presenting both types of subject as large paintings.
The Tower of Babel[a] is an origin myth and parable in the Book of Genesis that explains why the world's peoples speak different languages. It is a testament to humanity's hubris as humans challenged God by reaching to the heavens.
Bruegel depicted the bustle and commotion in the harbour and on the construction site where work was in progress: more than a thousand small figures can be seen hauling equipment, laying bricks, and loading and unloading building materials.
Bank of England Embraces Innovative Payments With CBDC, DLT and Tokenization
Stablecoins present "significant financial stability risk."
Kudos to the Bank of England (BoE) for its candor and embrace of innovation in this bold policy paper, which lays out its research interests and tells other central banks to “engage and prepare.”
The BOE then goes on to highlight everything hot in the payment space, from QR codes to distributed ledger technology (DLT), tokenization, stablecoins, and, of course, CBDCs!

How to Build A GenAI Application and A Neopolitan Pizza
GenAI is like cooking, understanding the ingredients is half the battle.
Most of us will never make a true Neopolitan pizza with fresh mozzarella, San Marzano tomatoes, and a wood-fired oven, but that doesn’t stop us from marveling at the taste and wanting to know more!
That’s why today’s reading is important. Like learning about the ingredients of pizza, today’s read will help us understand more about GenAI and what goes on behind the scenes, even if we never build one ourselves

Tokenization is Here: Is Web3 Ready to Keep Up?
Web3 seems to have taken a back-seat to GenAI hype!

Tokenization is a hot topic, and it will undoubtedly start transforming all asset classes in the next five years. When that happens, McKinsey sees Web3 as the perfect place to use them.
McKinsey is only half right: Web3’s blockchain architecture is the perfect place for retail tokenized assets. Note that I said retail assets, not wholesale.

Trump's Crypto Love Fest: The Good, Bad and the Ugly
Talk of de-dollarization with crypto from within the US is dangerous rhetoric.
Regular readers will know that I typically avoid politics, but the recent speech by President Trump at the Bitcoin conference in Nashville is too important to overlook.
My aim here is not to take sides in the political arena but rather to provide an objective analysis of President Trump's proposals, offering a clear understanding of their potential impact.

2 个月On Collateral Damage: The Domestic Impact of U.S. Semiconductor Export Controls Read the NY FED Geopolitical Risk and Decoupling: Evidence from U.S. Export Controls Amid the current U.S.-China technological race, the U.S. has imposed export controls to deny China access to strategic technologies. We document that these measures prompted a broad-based decoupling of U.S. and Chinese supply chains. Once their Chinese customers are subject to export controls, U.S. suppliers are more likely to terminate relations with Chinese customers, including those not targeted by export controls. However, we find no evidence of reshoring or friend-shoring. As a result of these disruptions, affected suppliers have negative abnormal stock returns, wiping out $130 billion in market capitalization, and experience a drop in bank lending, profitability, and employment. https://www.newyorkfed.org/research/staff_reports/sr1096
