GenAI – threat or opportunity?
Your job is going to change. What to do now to be ready.
Generative AI is writing content faster, and in some cases better, than we can.
So, does that mean communications professionals will be replaced? Are we to go the way of the human alarm-clock and be displaced? Or can Gen AI match the emotional connection of human communication?
Like most things, the truth lies somewhere in the middle. But there are things smart communications professionals are doing now to be ready.

Use it.
There’s no better way to learn how a technology can help you than to use it, and there’s no risk in learning now. AI is moving quickly – if you don’t actively explore now, you run the risk that in six months you’ll be too far behind the competition to catch up.

Get quick wins.
The internet is a content monster that demands continual feeding - a virtual Audrey II, if you will. As marketing automation and AI moves us from audience segmentation to hyper-personalization, the demand to create more - and more differentiated - content is growing exponentially. It’s also unlikely that to meet this demand our teams and/or budgets will grow at the same rate.
The biggest opportunity for the short-term is to generate more content faster, boosting your team’s effectiveness and productivity. I tested a few GenAI copywriting tools for thought leadership content and was able to write a first draft of a blog within 15 mins and cut the total production time in half – and it was SEO optimized.
It's likely that for effective communications, humans will continue to be part of the process - collaborating with AI - for the foreseeable future.
Have you explored AI? How are you getting your team ready? What are your burning questions?

1 年Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the topic, Elyse! I believe delegating monotonous tasks to AI would be the best way to utilize it for Communications. For example, producing generic SoMe posts. We are now shifting from eliminating time-consuming day-to-day tasks to working on big-picture tasks.
