About a third (34%) of Gen Zers are opting to do what's known as “career catfishing,” which is when a successful candidate accepts a job and then never shows up.

As new AI advancements change hiring practices and the way applicants approach the job search, now everyone involved is also dealing with a surge in an older hazard of the internet: catfishing.?

Gen Z has brought catfishing, or creating a fake identity to trick or control others, to the office. More specifically, about one third of Gen Zers are “career catfishing” as they flip the habit of employers ghosting applicants.?

This means a successful candidate accepted a job and then never showed up, according to a new survey.

The results found career catfishing is one of many strategies employees are using to gain more autonomy.?
