Gen Z vs Dinosaurs

So this week was an eye opener for me. One of my team member told me she was in class 6th while I wrote CAT for first time. Which made me realize that I am not just old, I am dinosaur by these standards.

This also led to a thinking wave wherein I was trying to figure how will I have to update in next 2 years maximum to keep in touch with this generation which is entering the workforce. In order to do that, I got around to listing their strengths and below are some of my top reasons why I think this generation will make a wave of difference.

So here goes the list and this is purely personal from my perspective, my interactions so the usual disclaimer about not representing an person , resemblance to a person blah blah all apply. Dont sue me for it!

1.????This generation is so much more inclusive. They understand race, religion, ethnicity, class, money distinctions and yet they choose to look beyond and above. It is superb and at times flummoxing when they challenge all are notions, conceptions and force us to re think. For them what matters is the people and this generation has realized it all too well.?

2.????Damn these generation is ambitious. They stop at nothing and much more they dont let anyone around bog them down. My generation at times has the capacity to fall for emotions and adhere to societal norms , These guys don't. This generation has a trait of not settling, rather they continue to hustle constantly in their scope to improve and be better. From using insta to make reels, to scripts to excel to presentations this generation keeps challenging all of us.

3.??The ability to disagree is something of an art and this generation is the picasso of this art. The learning styles to which they have subscribed gets them the confidence allows human beings these days to be more confident to express their opinions and stand up!

4.??They have the courage and even the liberty to choose their professions without much resistance from parents or society. Infact they behave like the water of the duck's back where they make bold choices and much more they don't defend or much more importantly blame themselves if they fail. Sharma ji son's doesn't matter because they are above such comparisons.

5.????They choose experience over money. They are not squeamish about spending for experience or whatever gives them joy. Unlike us, they also know the value of saving but are not obsessed with it.

Obviously with good comes the bad and there are some concerns that need to be looked into

a. The low attention span. They give up on somethings pretty fast if it not appealing to your senses and their just give up! So incase if you want to get through do it fast, do it engaging and invoke multiple mechanisms to make sure that that they choose and imbibe.

b. The low attention span or the continuous upgradation makes them easily dissatisfied and thereby more prone to job hopping. What it means is that the firms are under pressure to make them productive fast and better and most of the firms don't have the resources to do that.

c. What is also means that even inside the organizations they want to be constantly challenged inside also which means that they keep looking for new roles and new adventures and most of the organizations are equipped yet for this. It will take an enormous effort and time to change this.

From where I stand the way I see it : there is big paradigm shift coming , infact started and the organizations are struggling bar a few. What I see happening is the rise of project contingent workforce which means the organizations and work has to be designed in a manner wherein there is fastest of uptake in getting to speed, full productivity in the project phase and disband and disseminate the learning and much more move ahead. The days of 40 years services are almost at end, what will matter is getting the dream team together.
