Kingsley Green Recruitment
Search & Recruitment in Legal, Company Secretarial & Compliance
Gen Z is reshaping the workplace like never before. As the newest entrants into the workforce, this group isn’t just filling roles—they are transforming how we think about work, success, and leadership. Their expectations challenge long-standing norms, leaving businesses asking a crucial question:?Are we ready for Gen Z??
For many General Counsels and Heads of Legal we work with, recruiting Gen Z talent presents unique challenges. These candidates are highly skilled, often with top-tier training, but connecting with them can often feel like a challenge as their values, priorities, and career expectations differ significantly from those of their millennial predecessors.??
At Kingsley Green Recruitment we recruit lawyers and company secretaries across all levels and part of our service and value add is adapting our approach and tailoring our service to the needs, wants and desires of the candidates we work with. We have learnt that success in recruiting Gen Z goes far beyond just matching candidates to roles. The relationships we foster with our candidates are just as important as those with our clients and it has never been more important for us to listen intently to the ambitions, motivations and drivers of Gen Z, while guiding clients to adapt to this new dynamic.
So, what does it take to attract and connect with Gen Z talent effectively?
1. Purposeful Work
Gen Z cares profoundly about purpose. They want to work for organisations that align with their values and have a positive impact on the world. They are drawn to companies that stand for something bigger—whether that is environmental sustainability, diversity and inclusion, or social impact. That is why it is so important for a company to clearly communicate their values and the causes to which they are committed from the outset. Businesses will benefit from highlighting the company’s mission and initiatives through authentic storytelling whilst showcasing employee experiences on platforms such as LinkedIn , Instagram and TikTok where Gen Z actively researches potential employers.
2. Make Work Meaningful
Routine tasks are unavoidable, but Gen Z craves significant contributions and the knowledge that their work is important and has a wider value. They want roles where their work drives real positive change and aligns with larger business goals. Employers should be explicit about the importance of the work and be clear about what the benefits will be to the business once complete. It is vital to explain how the role contributes to the company’s mission and to outline opportunities for involvement on impactful projects whilst providing clarity on the outcomes they can influence.
3. Offer Flexibility Alongside Community
Flexible working isn’t a perk for Gen Z—it is an expectation. This generation values the ability to work from anywhere, whether it be from home or sunnier climes.??However, many also appreciate the opportunity to collaborate in person and build relationships with colleagues and a sense of community within the business. At Kingsley Green Recruitment , we have noticed the beginnings of?a shift away from Gen Z wanting fully remote based roles,??and instead they want to go into the office a couple of days a week to feel more connected to their team and the overall business.?

4. Create Clear Paths to Career Progression
Gen Z are ambitious and eager to learn, and they have the confidence to request and expect salaries at the higher end of the scale. They prioritise roles that offer visible growth opportunities, whether through promotions, skills training, or leadership development. Gen Z simply don’t have the same sense of loyalty as those that came before them and are constantly asking ‘What’s next? How soon can I get there? What skills do I need? How much more money can I make?’ They are therefore far more likely to choose employers that offer clear career paths, as well as upskilling and training opportunities.?
5. Inclusive Leadership
Gen Z values leaders who are approachable, transparent, and collaborative. They want to feel heard and included, even if they are just starting out. Companies can thrive when they create opportunities for Gen Z employees to share their perspectives and are encouraged to come to the fore with their own ideas. In light of this, to involve them in projects outside their usual scope, solicit their input on team improvements, or invite them to participate in decision-making processes, can go a long way to create this culture.?
6. The Importance of Tech
Raised in a digital-first world, Gen Z expects workplaces to be equipped with modern, and mobile- friendly technology. Outdated systems can be a significant turnoff. Employers should take the time to showcase their organisation’s investment in cutting-edge tools and systems and highlight their commitment to innovation and efficiency during the recruitment process.
Why Gen Z Matters
Gen Z are a generation of innovators and change-makers. They bring fresh perspectives, an insatiable drive for improvement, and a deep sense of purpose to their work. Companies that adapt to their needs will not only attract top talent but also unlock the potential of the leaders of tomorrow. And while it may seem like Gen Z asks for a lot, isn’t it worth considering that they are simply vocalising what most of us have always wanted? Purpose, balance, growth, and connection aren’t exclusive to Gen Z—they resonate across generations.?
A Closing Message to Gen Z
It’s great to ask for what you want. But remember, the best relationships whether professional or personal are reciprocal. Be prepared to articulate the value you bring to the table. When you match your ambition with what you offer, you create opportunities not just for yourself but for those around you.
