Every new generation faces similar challenges. They have new ideas, new technology, and new ways of doing things that are propelled by their youth and idealism. They have not been worn down by reality yet. They are not jaded. Along comes the older generation to quash their new ideas, new technology, and new ways of doing things. After all, they feel threatened. They feel the end is near. They feel worn out. Sometimes, that means the youth fight back. Then, they are blinded to the wisdom, experience, and richness that those veterans of life bring to the workplace.?
Diversity takes on many forms. As individuals, we have the power to empower others by recognizing their strengths. A young person who understands that the generations before theirs can share experiences and serve as role models is invaluable. The older person who recognizes the energy and innovation that comes from the young will remain relevant. These collaborations can help everyone reach their full potential and companies to transcend expectations.?
In the last week, HR Exchange Network celebrated our differences at the DEI online event. The biggest takeaway was that staying curious can lead us to a culture of belonging. It can also keep us vital, and it is a much happier existence.?Watch the DEI event sessions on-demand?to become more curious!
