Gen Z Expectations Influencing Office Space Design

With the world moving so fast it’s hard to keep up with all the facts on how it is going to change the world of consumerism.

Some Important Gen Z Facts:

  • We’re already in the third decade of the 21st century where the Gen Zers are not kids anymore and already started buying their first furnishings.
  • Their brains work faster. According to a recent study, their attention span has decreased to 8 seconds from millennials’ attention span being 12 seconds.
  • This generation is more resourceful than any other. Being born in the digital age where they consume more media online than offline, they definitely don’t rely on any adult for knowledge.
  • More than any other generation before, Gen-Z looks to their employers to lend purpose and meaning to what they do. They want to make the world a better place, and they want their employer to make the world a better place.


The above factors actually define Gen Z’s behaviour and expectations when it comes to adjusting within a certain space. Especially, when it comes to workplace or their own WFH stations as young millennials and gen Z basically spend most of their time working.


Those expectations indeed have to be a lot yet very simple and solving daily challenges!


Flexibility & Personalization:

These days we get almost everything customized except the workspaces.

The world is moving towards individualism and customization as everyone is different in their own ways and has different needs. Now, we even get various customized options of working from office, hybrid, or even remote based on people’s flexibility.?

Gen Zers being brought up in such flexible environments have built-in expectations to work with flexibility too, where the employee and the employer can have a creative collaboration for better outputs and productivity.

It is time for businesses to design customized workspaces based on different job roles and daily operations flexibility.



Sustainability:

It is a very sustainable-oriented generation where these future workers have been educated and brought up keeping environment and sustainability as a priority fact and practice in their existence.

No generation has cared about sustainability the way Gen Z does. They even care about the brands they use being environment-friendly, energy 5-star products, recyclable products, reducing carbon footprint, and the list goes on and on!

This is pushing brands and work spaces to be environment-friendly in every possible way as that’s what this generation wants.


Technology:

With the rise of data science and artificial intelligence, smart products are a major part of this generation’s lifestyle.


Smart homes are already being accepted and adopted by most the people, it’s only a matter of fact when Gen Zers would start having expectations around having smart offices with customized workspace with smart furniture and smart energy fittings that are able to support the use of a wide range of current and future innovative technological tools.?


Lifestyle:

With 24/7 services comes 24/7 work life. Today’s generation hardly works between 9-5. This generation is instead working long, irregular, but flexible hours.

For this very reason, it is important to have a workspace with luxurious activities (like indoor & outdoor sports facility, gym, etc) where an employee can relax instead of stressing out mentally and physically due to workload.
