Gen AI is a Tool. Use with CARE.

As a workman has a tool belt full of different tools for various jobs, generative AI offers us a veritable tool belt of capabilities. Want to summarize a long document? There's an AI tool for that. Need to generate marketing copy or product descriptions? Another AI tool ready to assist. Looking to code a new application? You can leverage AI coding assistants.
Just as a skilled workman carefully selects the right tool for each task, we must be thoughtful in how we wield generative AI capabilities. You wouldn't use a hammer to tighten a screw or randomly start drilling holes without a plan. Similarly, we can't just indiscriminately apply gen AI without considering which tool is the proper fit. You must take CARE when planning and implementing AI projects.
Some key things to consider when reaching into your AI tool belt:
C - Consider the Context
Before deploying any AI tool, carefully consider the full context and implications. What is the specific use case? What are the risks if the output is inaccurate or biased? Make sure you understand the true context.
A - Assess Capabilities
Thoroughly assess the actual capabilities of the AI model or tool you plan to use. Don't assume it can do more than it's designed for. Understand its strengths, weaknesses, and potential failure modes.

R - Responsible Oversight
Implement responsible human oversight. Don't treat AI as a black box. Have people who understand the AI involved at key steps to validate outputs and catch potential issues.
E - Ethical Examination
Examine the ethical implications. Is deploying this AI tool for this use case ethical? Does it raise any concerns around fairness, privacy, or other ethical issues that need mitigating?
Using CARE can remind teams to slow down and thoroughly consider all angles before rolling out AI capabilities. A little conscious upfront "care" can prevent major headaches later.
With a thoughtful, strategic approach, generative AI can be leveraged safely and effectively across many business functions - writing, coding, analysis, creativity, contact center and more. But don't go drilling holes randomly! Choose your AI tools carefully for the right job.
