With Gen AI, do we need another CMMI, ITIL, and COBIT blend of Framework to streamline its adoption?

As Gen AI is on the ground and many organizations have started implementing it to some extent, however the standards and guidelines are still not very clear and are subject to individual interpretations. There are a lot of talks and discussions going on to formulate a concrete framework to give organizations flexibility with the guardrails and control in place to adopt the Gen AI. This very much resembles the situation when the process and practices for software development were ad hoc, and organizations were struggling to find the standard approach to deliver quality software. does this mean that we need another CMMI or ITIL type of framework to systematize the adoption of Gen AI?

?This is very much the case now as well, everyone wants to reap the benefits of Gen AI but at the same time have multiple apprehensions on the usage of it because of the challenges associated with the adoption of Gen AI in area of output reliability, privacy, and confidentiality, intellectual property, liability, cybersecurity, customer protection, regulatory compliance. The situation very much demands to relook of the existing framework in place and remodeling it to meet the requirements not only to overcome the challenges associated with GenAI but also to provide processes, procedures, and standards in place to enable the smooth adoption of GenAI.

?Whatever may be the use case in the adoption of Gen AI, there is an element of data management, configuration management, vendor management, security management, change management, release management, verification and validation and standards to ensure customer interests are protected in a best possible way without compromising the value structure in a customer organization.

Each piece of the puzzle needs a thorough analysis to lay down the framework in place, but the question is are we missing what is already in place in terms of existing CMMI, COBIT, and ITIL frameworks and tweaking it from the very specific needs for Gen AI adoption instead of re-inventing the wheel.

?

Can’t we use the very basic capabilities of Gen AI and train it with existing frameworks (CMMI, COBIT, ITIL, etc..) along with fine-tuning it with multiple years of experience of creating and managing the software and associated services to have pre-trained and fine-tuned frameworks in place to give you the unified and tailored answers related to principles, policies, standards, and guidelines associated with Gen AI adoption.
