Gemstones are the Real Stars of the 2016 Oscars

In a night that is all about the glitz and glamour of Hollywood, it is always a pleasure to see the fabulous styles of the most beloved celebrities in the world. Although the Oscars are traditionally known for conservative, elegant dress, this year featured many exciting looks that were not shy about embracing color. However, the most important part of a woman’s look is her accessories and the jewelry of the Academy Awards did not in any way disappoint. The trend of the evening was statement earrings, with the majority of actresses sporting this look, along with some fabulous cuff bracelets and more than one magnificent necklace! It was interesting to see that some of the most beautiful jewelry pieces of the evening actually featured gemstones such as emeralds and sapphires, and were not the traditional colorless diamond go-tos.

Hands down, the most exciting necklace of the evening was the Bulgari diamond and sapphire bib necklace worn by Tina Fey from the Bulgari High Jewelry collection that she paired with a High Jewelry diamond and ruby ring and diamond stud earrings. The other two notable mentions in the necklace category are Naomi Watts in her incredible Bulgari diamond necklace, and Charlize Theron in her $3.7 million of Harry Winston diamonds, specifically her 48.8 carat Harry Winston Secret Cluster diamond necklace.

The most notable earrings of the night were those of Saoirse Ronan, Jennifer Garner, and Lady Gaga. Lady Gaga wore $8 million Lorraine Schwartz emerald cut colorless diamond drop earrings, glitzy and prominent like her usual style. Ronan and Garner both wore earrings featuring emeralds. Saoirse Ronan’s earrings were a mismatched pair of Chopard pearl, emerald, and diamond earrings, and Jennifer Garner’s was a pair of Neil Lane emerald and diamond earrings.

The best bracelets were worn by Olivia Munn, Reese Witherspoon, and Whoopi Goldberg. Olivia Munn wore a $1 million coiled Forevermark diamond cuff bracelet, and Reese Witherspoon wore a selection of Tiffany & Co. diamond bracelets. However, by far the most fascinating choice of the evening, and from the least likely celebrity present, was the stunning pearl octopus bracelet-ring by Istanbul designer Sevan Bicakci worn by Whoopi Goldberg. Gorgeous!
