Will Gemini replace GPT?

Will Gemini replace GPT?

Ye dukh kahe khatam hi nahi hota... (Pardon me but since everyone is talking memes, I am just trying to keep up with the trend ??)

There wasn’t a short enough list of AI advancements to stay updated with already, that we have a new star in the galaxy.?

Introducing Gemini - the cool kid being talked about all along. (Idk, there’s always something so annoying about the typical “all-rounder”)

This Wednesday, Google released Gemini, its new generative AI model, claiming it to be the most capable and general-purpose AI it’s developed so far.

Seems it’s not just humans who are a part of the comparison trap. ?? (At times, I feel comparison and competence are not as bad; it’s the force that keeps us all striving and becoming better??)

Gemini will be available in three models, Gemini Ultra, Gemini Pro, and Gemini Nano depending on the nature of the tasks it has to perform.

But why is Gemini getting all the hype with the AI models in town?

The answer lies in Gemini’s “multimodal” model, which means Google’s Gemini isn’t bound by a single data type and can decode many data types at once, similar to how humans use different senses in the real world.

THE MULTIMODAL MAGIC

Using ChatGPT and AI Image generators, we are already familiar with machine learning models that can understand and generate natural language and create beautiful art with a single line of text.

But Gemini is a step ahead; Gemini would not be bound by any single data type - which is why we call it a “multimodal” model.

A multimodal model can decode many data types at once, similar to how humans use different senses in the real world.

But why is Generative AI such a wild success?

It’s because, for the first time, a machine can imitate what humans do.?

But what exactly can humans do? We can not only chat, code, write reports, and create images, we can do all of that.

The human brain is brilliantly complex. It can simultaneously interpret and understand various data formats, including text, words, sounds, and visuals. This allows us to make sense of the world around us, respond to stimuli, and solve problems in creative and innovative ways.?

This is exactly what Gemini is all about. A new AI that comes closer to what humans do: a multi-tasking multimodal AI.

This means using Bard, would be no different than having a conversation with a genius friend who knows everything. ( Quite literally EVERYTHING)

Google in collaboration with Mark Rober has launched a CRAZY video on the capabilities of Gemini, you can check the video here . (It’s a video showcasing how Mark builds a huge paper aircraft solely with Gemini and makes it pass through a ring of fire)?

WILL BARD’S GEMINI REPLACE CHAT GPT?

With all these superficial abilities and the magic of multimodal LLM, will Gemini take over ChatGPT?

Gemini differs from other large language models in that it’s not just trained on text alone. Google says that it built the model with multimodal capabilities in mind. However, a table in Google’s technical report suggests that Gemini performs even better in real-world testing.

When comparing Gemini with ChatGPT, many experts talk about parameters. In broad strokes, the more parameters an AI has, the more sophisticated it is.

ChatGPT 4.0, the most advanced AI in operation, has 1.75 trillion parameters. In contrast, Gemini claims to have 30 trillion or even 65 trillion parameters.

The metrics are broad and the samples are small. (The Gemini Ultra is not yet accessible to the public and is expected to roll out by 2024). Whether Gemini Ultra would replace ChatGPT or not is a matter of time.?

If the promises that are made by Google stand true, Gemini will power everything from Maps to Docs and Translate, all Google Workplace and Cloud environment and services, as well as software and hardware and new products. It’s like your personal curated AI-powered ecosystem.

So, what makes Gemini so special? It's like upgrading from a trusty bicycle to a spaceship. Gemini doesn't just understand your words; it grasps the nuances, and context, and even predicts what you'll say next.

It's the Elon Musk of language models!

Well, Elon Musk reminds me of two recent instances, not staying behind in the AI race,

Elon Musk launched a new AI-powered chatbot developed by xAI on X (formerly Twitter).

Wait, there’s more!

Pushing away the perfect FOMO, Meta released a free standalone AI image-generator website, "Imagine with Meta AI”,? trained on 1.1 billion Instagram and Facebook photos.

Since the past year, AI has been that open war between OpenAI, Microsoft, Google, and others has supercharged the disruptive field, each competing head-to-head and releasing new and more powerful models.?

Apart from staying updated and enjoying the perks of these ever-advancing competing AI tools, you can also sit back relax, and enjoy the competent yet fascinating cold AI war??.

Until then…

Book I’ve been reading this week.

I have been hooked on reading "The Psychology of Money" by Morgan Housel.?

A book that will reshape your perspective on wealth and money.

Podcast I shared this week.

We recorded a podcast with the professors of Case Western Reserve University on my trip to the US, and he shared an interesting analogy;

“The easiest way to know if you’re working out in the US is by making girlfriends there”.

A fun yet insightful conversation. Watch here

Well, the early results say GEMINI is beating the hell out of GPT but I am hopeful GPT will come back stronger. Let's see how this battle continues. Pretty exciting :)
