I'm in the middle of a series on Instagram, posting photos of photography and filmmaking gear that has made an impact on me this year. Here's #5 on my list. The RF 35mm lens (https://amzn.to/2YA6vh3) was my introduction into Canon's RF lens series, and I couldn’t have made a better choice. Three underrated things about this lens: how light it is, it’s image stabilized, and the bokeh it generates, particularly when filming video at 1.8 - it makes your footage cinematic, dreamy, and beautiful! Oh, and you can get very, very close (6 inches!) to your subject because it’s a 1:2 macro lens, too!
There’s a bunch of technical reasons why it is awesome - the number of connectors that sends data back to the camera body is higher than EF lenses, and the new RF mount construction leads to a reduced angle of light rays which bends light to a lesser degree, thus minimizing aberrations caused by refraction at edge of photos. So much to take advantage of with this new technology, but it all depends on you owning and using the Canon EOS R or Canon EOS RP.
Here's a video from my YouTube channel that shares more insight from my experience with this lens: https://youtu.be/0penqqpGX2U.
