NEWS:
The establishment of a new High-Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) Competence Center in Berlin enhances the presence of GE Vernova’s Electrification Systems division, positioning it as a pivotal center for operations in Europe.
The additional resources in Berlin are expected to accelerate the achievement of decarbonization and electrification objectives throughout Germany, Europe, and beyond.
This expansion is projected to generate approximately 500 new highly skilled employment opportunities in the region.
The talks of the company’s senior managers about this competence center:
GE Vernova Inc. has announced the enhancement of its Electrification facility in Berlin with the inauguration of a High-Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) Competence Center.
This center is set to pioneer advanced technologies aimed at accelerating the energy transition by bolstering grid stability and facilitating the integration of increased renewable energy sources throughout Germany and Europe. It will also provide support for HVDC initiatives on a global scale.
HVDC systems play a crucial role in fulfilling electrification and decarbonization objectives. The HVDC center will focus on the development and testing of technologies that allow for the efficient transmission of large amounts of power over extensive distances or from offshore connections, streamline the incorporation of renewable energy into existing power grids, and interlink various HVDC transmission systems.
The establishment of the HVDC Competence Center elevates the Berlin facility to a central role within GE Vernova’s Electrification Systems operations in Europe. It enhances GE Vernova’s ability to cater to both regional and international demands in Grid Solutions, Power Conversion, Solar, and Storage, thereby addressing the increasing Electrification backlog.
“The world’s future is electric, and electrification is essential for achieving a net zero emissions future,” said Philippe Piron, CEO of Electrification Systems at GE Vernova.
“The expansion of our Berlin center is a significant step towards advancing reliable, affordable, and decarbonized energy and supporting the rapid growth of GE Vernova ’s Electrification segment. As a key Electrification hub for GE Vernova in Europe, the Berlin site will drive innovation in grid solutions, power conversion, and renewable energy integration. This investment reinforces our commitment to modernizing energy systems, supporting Germany’s energy transition, and leading the electrification and decarbonization of the global energy ecosystem.”
Facilitating Germany’s Shift to Sustainable Energy by GE Vernova Company:
Operating in Germany for over a century, GE Vernova is committed to advancing the nation’s net-zero initiatives through innovative infrastructure technologies and services. The strong presence of GE Vernova in Germany and throughout Europe enhances its capability to operate across borders, extending from the North Sea to Eastern Europe.
The establishment of the center and the investment in HVDC technology are in line with Germany’s goal to progress its energy transition. This transition necessitates significant upgrades to grid infrastructure and investment in the System Stability Roadmap. This governmental initiative aims to ensure a resilient and stable power system as Germany strives to produce at least 80% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030.
Driving Electrification in Europe by GE Vernova Company:
GE Vernova is leading the charge in the energy transition as Europe aims to decarbonize while addressing the increasing electricity demand. The company has recently established an innovation partnership with four German Transmission System Operators (TSOs) to develop a Multi-Terminal/Multi-Hub High-Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) connection solution. This initiative represents a significant advancement in the creation of a future high-voltage grid essential for Germany and Europe’s energy transition. Additionally, GE Vernova is collaborating with TenneT on a 2-gigawatt (GW) High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) offshore transmission system project spanning Germany and the Netherlands, which is part of a five-year Framework Cooperation Agreement initiated in March 2023.
The HVDC Competence Center will facilitate these agreements and others within its expanding order backlog, further supporting efforts to incorporate renewable energy into the grid. This underscores GE Vernova ‘s dedication to providing innovative solutions that meet the region’s changing grid requirements.
Moreover, GE Vernova has recently announced plans to double the production capacity at its Stafford, UK facility to accommodate the rising global demand for HVDC technology.
The GE Vernova Company is dedicated to generating employment opportunities and fostering advancement:
In alignment with its expansion strategy in Germany, GE Vernova anticipates the creation of approximately 500 new highly skilled positions for engineers, project managers, and various support personnel in Berlin between 2023 and the conclusion of 2025. Job openings are scheduled to be announced quarterly, with 60 positions currently available and an additional 200 expected to be posted. These positions will play a crucial role in promoting electrification technologies and strengthening the company’s engineering and technical expertise, thereby establishing the Berlin Electrification facility as a significant player in the advancement of energy solutions throughout the region.
Inaugural Ceremony for this Competence Center:
In celebration of the inauguration of the HVDC Competence Center, GE Vernova organized an open forum addressing the critical issues facing the current grid and energy environment. The event featured speakers from the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, the Senate Department for Economic Affairs, Energy and Public Enterprises, along representatives from GE Vernova, who engaged in discussions regarding Germany’s energy future and the journey towards a sustainable and dependable energy supply.
