GE launches recycling lawsuit, spar buoy problems delay offshore project in Japan

Sweetwater, we have a problem: Blades have been piling up in the Texas town for too long. GE?is suing?Global Fiberglass Solutions for not recycling the blades, as the company agreed to do in 2017. It's not a good look for a town where the welcome sign is printed on a wind turbine blade. The Uptime crew dives in and discusses rattlesnakes and other things that make it hard to recycle composites. Delays have hit the 16.8 MW Goto floating wind farm,?under construction off Goto City, Nagasaki Prefecture.?The consortium, which includes?

Eneos Corporation, Osaka Gas, and others, is dealing with defects?affecting the integrity of the floating platforms. Since heavy investments can make engineering problems less complex, will it really take 2 years to solve this?

Speaking of engineering complexity - we look at?Touchwind's new,?single-blade turbine,?designed for shallow water. Will it float? Eliminating grease?and oil leaks around a wind turbine's main bearing?is the goal of System Seal. We agree the benefits are obvious!?PES Wind magazine?readers can get all? the?details?in the latest issue. Our Wind Farm of the Week is in Illinois, where EDP Renewable's?Top Crop Wind Farm has a great name. But that's not all: it's paid the wind farm's landowners more than?$33.9M plus?more than $30M to local governments. Listen to the?Uptime Wind Energy podcast?now, or download to listen later. GE Vernova is stepping up and recycling blades in Iowa. They should be commended. The recycling industry is catching up to the wind industry in terms of capacity. Stay tuned as we talk with a recycling company in Iowa on the podcast!
