With the growing focus on energy security and decarbonization, the world is looking forward to a future where innovation and manufacturing drive new jobs, supply chain, competitiveness, and sustainable economic development.
At GE, we’ve pursued these goals for 130 years.?And today, we take a step toward a new era in energy innovation and manufacturing.
We’re proud to announce GE Vernova will invest $50 million at its Schenectady, New York, facility and hire approximately 200 new full-time employees, including skilled union operators, manufacturing engineers, and front-line leadership, to establish a new manufacturing assembly line for its onshore wind business. The site will assemble three key components for GE Vernova ’s 6.1 MW turbine. It’s the latest in GE’s legacy of New York manufacturing and will be built in the same building as where our generators are built—one of the nation’s largest factories. In fact, one of the benefits of this space is having access to one of the country’s biggest cranes for these behemoths.?Learn more.
We’re able to move fast with this extraordinary investment thanks to our passionate employees, customers, and government stakeholders. The Biden Administration’s finalization of domestic content guidance for the Inflation Reduction Act brings the type of certainty needed to make these long-term investments. And we’re thankful for our state partners for providing up to $2.5 million though Empire State Development ’s Excelsior Jobs Program.?

Importantly, today’s announcement is neither the beginning nor the end of our commitment to cleaner energy manufacturing. I recently visited our renewables factory in Pensacola, Florida, with GE Vernova 's CEO Scott Strazik , which builds nacelles for the leading onshore wind turbines in the United States.?As fascinating as it was to learn and watch our employees build the nacelles and hubs in Florida, it was just as exciting to see the team make room for additional lines and capacity soon.?In North Dakota, our LM Wind Power facility has a similar legacy of making onshore wind blades for our leading U.S. product.
Earlier this year, GE submitted a proposed supply chain investment plan for first-of-their-kind offshore wind nacelle and blade factories in New York State. The team’s proposal gives a strong vision of what the future of renewable energy manufacturing can be: a commitment to hire 35 percent of employees from underserved communities, a Pathways to Wind training program for getting the workforce ready, a focus on more sustainable manufacturing, and a commitment to environmental justice programs. Last week, President Biden commended the IEW-CWA and GE for their proactiveness in reaching a labor peace agreement. Learn more.
Importantly, our commitment to energy innovation and manufacturing reaches far beyond the United States. We are in an era where all countries can create the types of jobs, manufacturing, and training that we are announcing in Schenectady. Increasingly, we are committed to working with our partners globally on not just installing equipment built elsewhere, but maximizing domestic content, workforce, and training where we operate. This begins with STEM events such as the one we held for 100 diverse students in Dubai three weeks ago to long term contractual agreements, including supply chain and work force opportunities in partnerships for breakthrough technologies. As mentioned above, today is neither the beginning nor the end of our commitment to manufacturing globally. No company has as much history or legacy in this space, and no company stands more committed to accelerating energy innovation and manufacturing globally.
