'Personal data', 'special categories of data', 'process/processing', 'controller', 'processor', 'data subject' and 'supervisory authority' (list not exhaustive)are words often seen, that basically refers to the processing of personal data.

Some terminologies are:

  •  'The data exporter' means the controller who transfers the personal data.
  •   'The data importer' means the processor who agrees to receive from the data exporter personal data intended for processing.
  •  'Processing' means collecting, recording, organising, structuring, storing, adapting or altering, retrieving, consulting, disclosing by transmission, dissemination or otherwise making it available, aligning or combining, restricting its use, erasing or destroying it. Processing also includes transferring (or disclosing) personal data to third parties.
  •  'The Sub processor' means any processor engaged by the data importer.
  •  'The applicable data protection laws' means the legislation protecting the fundamental rights and freedoms of individuals and, in particular, their right to privacy.
  •  'Technical and Organisational security measures' means those measures aimed at protecting personal data against accidental or unlawful destruction or accidental loss, alteration, unauthorised disclosure or access, in particular where the processing involves the transmission of data over a network, and against all other unlawful forms of processing.
  •  'Data records' means record kept by the organisation's systems.

In conclusion this quote aptly put by Zoher Karu of APAC and EMEA" One of the biggest challenges around data privacy and what is shared versus what is not shared. My perspective on that is consumers are willing to share if there’s value returned. One way sharing is not going to fly anymore. So how do we protect and how do we harness that information and become a partner with our consumers rather than kind of just a vendor for them?"
